It happened in the year xxxx, the year our world began anew atop the ashes of the old.
We don't really know what civilization was like before the fallen, but as the saying goes:
Failing to repeat the past... Learning to repeat th-... Something something past, something something repeat something...
Anyway, even if I butchered the quote, the message stands: people were probably just as stupid then as they are now.
In school we learned that our planet used to house over 8B people, but that can't be true right?
I still don't believe it, and I asked as much then too.
"How could the planet hold so many people without some of them falling off? I asked.
Being just a kid back then I thought of the world as a cup. Once the cup is full, some of it spills off of the top and even more from the bottom. So it stood to reason with my small brain that the world would be the same.
I wish I had never asked that question. I wish I didn't know what I now know. It's... too much.

However, seeing a young mind she could mold and form just right, My teacher provided me with 'knowledge', and with that, my brain grew ever closer to captivity.
Wait, I think I got off topic... Where was I again?
Oh yes! Humanity before the fallen...
Honestly though, there's not much I can add to the story on that subject.
We know that some form of humanity existed before xxxx, we know that it was most likely their own stupidity that brought about their downfall, and we know the means by which it happened.
It's been around for longer than we have at least, the Divine Progression System.
Don't ask me how I know its name, I just know. We all just know.
Like taking your first steps or learning your left from your right, it was just a natural part of growing up.
Looking back though...
it's more like we were born in a cage and taught to call it freedom.
but there's no denying the power it granted us.
The power...
It was intoxicating.
Maddening.
It felt like there was nothing I couldn't do.
No one I couldn't kill.
Nothing could stand in my way.
...
I digress.
...
What was I talking about again?
...
Huh?
Oh...
Anyways, if you're reading this, then it's already too late.
It truly felt like nothing could stand in my way, but I too failed in the end.
This will be my final communication.
All I wanted was what we all wanted...
