Chapter 22

  Chapter 22

  Theo activated his inspect skill.

Lesser Vampire Sorcerer King level 25

Theo looks at the vampire in front of him, who is adorned in an ornate purple robe with gold trim and wearing a crown atop his head. Behind the king loomed a stone as black as the void, from which miasma flowed and seeped through the tower's windows.

Theo played along.. “To answer your question, I enjoyed this quaint little town. The townsfolk were lovely. I enjoyed my time in the entertainment district the most, but as most good things go, they must end sadly. My time here has come to an end,” he said with mock sincerity.

“Don’t be so hasty; relax. Come, let’s talk. There’s no need to leave so soon.” The vampire said

With the most honest and sincere voice that Theo ever heard, and Theo’s mental defenses were up and on the lookout for mental manipulation, and this was just acting, there was not a twinge of mental magic use.

“Damn, the vampire is a good actor,” Theo thought.

At that moment, Theo felt the compulsion, but it had no hold over him.

“And there it is,” with a sigh, “I’m so fucking done with this mental bullshit.” With that, Theo sent the Spectral Guard charging forward.

“What a shame. I suppose there’s always one who has to learn the hard way how to respect their betters,” the vampire said with a smile.

With that, the lesser vampire pulled a wand from the sleeve of his robe and aimed it at the ground a couple of feet in front of the Spectral Guard. The wand glowed, and in the next second, the floor began to rise, forming a Golem in front of the spectral guard. Then, the lesser vampire positioned himself directly in front of Theo, conjuring three more Golems to block his path.

Theo channeled a Cleanse through the chain connected to his cane sword and flung it at the Golem. However, the attack bounced off the golem. Since the golem was an inanimate object and not undead, the Cleanse spell did not affect it.

“Oh fuck, everything I’ve faced so far has been a variant of undead,” Theo thought.

Retracting the chain and sword cane, Theo aimed at the sorcerer, but a black shield sprang up around the vampire, blocking his attack.

“Come on, you’ll have to try harder than that. Is that all you’ve got, adventurer?” the vampire mocked.

As the sorcerer threw a black mana bolt at Theo, he dodged and took a deep breath. He began to run around the four massive Golems, which were made of brown stone and resembled humanoid figures with featureless faces and bodies that vaguely mimicked human forms. He weaved between them, dodging mana bolts and the lumbering giants. A plan began to form in Theo’s mind.

One of the Golems approached, raised its foot, and then stomped, causing the ground to crack and shake with the force of its blow. The chain around Theo's right leg unfurled and wrapped itself around the Golem's leg. As he ran to the next Golem, still dodging both the mana bolts from the sorcerer and the giants' attacks, Theo dropped another chain from his left leg, allowing yet another Golem to draw near. He deftly dodged another stomp, and the chain wrapped around the Golem's left leg.

The chains on his arms extended and wrapped around the last two Golems’ arms. Continuing to dance around, Theo herded the Golems together, connecting the chains from each one and ultimately piling them up. The chains began to extend and constrict around the four Golems, effectively trapping them. Then, because they are pseudo-divine, they compact the golems into an even smaller pile, crushing them. Rocks started to fly in every direction. Theo had the chains move very fast in one direction, then stop and go to the other as well.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“What a buzzkill. That was an extremely anti-climactic way to handle the golems. Where’s the fun in that?” With a sigh, “Fine, since you ruined my fun, I’m bored with you now; let’s get this over with,” the vampire sorcerer said.

After all the times Theo had spent subjugating vampires and allowing them to use their mental magic, he felt the familiar tendrils of magic trying to invade his mind. However, they simply bounced off; at this point, Theo didn't need to think about it consciously; his mental defenses were that refined.

“Well, you are truly annoying. Fine, I suppose I will play with you,” the sorcerer said with a sneer.

At the same time, the vampire raised his wand and unleashed a barrage of black mana bolts at Theo. The bolts' speed and consistency were like a machine gun, and while Theo dodged some of them, he relied on Healing Touch and Cleanse as he ran in a zigzag pattern using the Spectral Guard as a shield, funneling more mana to keep the spell active.

“Oh no, you don’t! I know how this is going to play out,” the vampire spat.

With that, the mana bolts started to curve around the Spectral Guard,

“Come on, you think that would work?” the sorcerer mocked.

Theo commanded the chains that were still on the ground a little ways away to expand, spread, and move in various directions, expanding throughout the circular room. The sorcerer began to conjure more mana bolts while Theo charged at him, skillfully dodging the black projectiles.

“I’m going to bring out the bigger spells,” the vampire taunted.

As lightning crackled toward Theo. He dodged a few bolts, but one grazed his arm, causing him to see stars for a moment. However, thanks to his bloodline and its resistance perks, Theo quickly shook off the effects. At the same time, he directed one of the chains to attack the sorcerer, forcing him to perform a similar evasive dance.

As Theo deftly dodged and weaved through the chaos, one of the chains successfully ensnared the sorcerer's leg. With a swift motion, all four chains wrapped around him and yanked him apart.

After Theo was done looking at notifications and the character sheet, he went towards the crystal that was no longer spewing out my miasma using identify.

Focus crystal pseudo-divine to focus their spells

Any mage can use this crystal to focus their spells

“Well, I guess this is a worthy price? Not sure how much useful it will be, but I’ve seen pseudo-divine items in there, or hell, of a lot better than a single below and rarity, so it must be good,” Theo thought.

Theo stored the focus crystal in his storage ring, and at that time, the vampire sorcerer King's body started to turn to dust and float away in the wind.

A chest appeared where the king departed. Theo walked over to the chest and opened it inside. There were potions to fill up his belt bandolier and a brand-new set of leather uncommon novice armor.

“Hopefully, this is better than the last set,” Theo grumbled.

Theo stored the armor set in the storage ring for now and headed down the stairs and out of the castle, heading towards the inn.
