Arc 1: The Age of Purge Volume 1: A Small Resistance Chapter 8: The End and Corruption

The sky above Heaven had turned strangely dark that day.

Cold winds drifted slowly through the streets as if the world itself had fallen into silence.

Outside the military medical station, SELEXTIA sat quietly on a stone bench.

  Her head was lowered.

Her eyes were fixed on the window in front of her.

Behind that window, healers and military medics were rushing around a bed where a girl lay unconscious.

  Elmira.

Her body was covered in bandages. Her wings were injured, and faint golden light flickered weakly around her.

She had not woken up since that battle.

  Four days had already passed.

SELEXTIA stared at her friend silently.

  Her fingers slowly tightened.

  “…You idiot.”

Her voice was barely a whisper.

“You always rush forward without thinking.”

  But Elmira did not answer.

  She remained completely still.

SELEXTIA sat there for a long time.

Finally, she stood up and walked away.

When she arrived home, the door slowly opened.

Her mother was standing there waiting for her.

The moment she saw SELEXTIA, she stepped forward and embraced her tightly.

“I’m glad you came back,” she said softly.

  SELEXTIA did not respond.

  She simply stood there.

  Her body stiff.

  Her eyes empty.

After a moment, she gently pushed the door open and walked inside.

She went straight to her room.

  The door closed.

  Silence.

  Two days passed.

SELEXTIA never came out of her room.

  She barely ate.

  She barely slept.

Her mother knocked on the door many times.

  “SELEXTIA… please come out.”

  But there was no answer.

  Finally, worry overcame patience.

Her mother took a step back.

  Then—

  BANG!

The door burst open as she forced it wide.

  “SELEXTIA!”

  Her voice trembled.

“Are you going to stay locked inside forever? I’m worried about you!”

Inside the room, SELEXTIA sat on the floor near the window.

  Her eyes stared blankly outside.

There was no emotion in them.

  Her mother slowly approached her.

Seeing her daughter like that made her expression sink with sadness.

  Stolen story; please report.

  “My child…”

  “Please don’t suffer like this.”

  She gently held SELEXTIA’s shoulders.

“You must let go of the past.”

“People who have died… cannot be brought back.”

SELEXTIA slowly looked up at her.

For a moment, memories flashed across her mind.

Three children running through bright fields.

  Laughing.

  Training together.

  Fighting side by side.

Those memories only made the pain deeper.

  Her vision blurred.

  Tears slowly filled her eyes.

She suddenly hugged her mother tightly.

  “…Mom…”

  Her voice trembled.

  “…Is there really no hope?”

Her mother gently stroked her hair.

  “SELEXTIA…”

  “I know you are hurting.”

“But memories are something we carry with us… not something we live inside forever.”

“You cannot destroy yourself just because someone has died.”

  She held her daughter firmly.

  “You must live for yourself.”

“Those who are gone cannot live your life for you.”

  SELEXTIA slowly tightened her grip.

  Her shoulders shook slightly.

Later that afternoon, SELEXTIA returned to the medical station.

  Elmira was still unconscious.

She stood beside the bed quietly.

The room was silent except for the faint sound of healing magic.

  SELEXTIA looked at her friend.

  “…Elmira.”

  Her voice was soft.

“When you wake up… please don’t hate me.”

  “Please don’t disappear too.”

  She turned and left.

  Two days later.

  Elmira slowly opened her eyes.

  Her vision was blurry.

  “…Where… am I?”

  She looked around in confusion.

A military healer quickly noticed and called for SELEXTIA.

When SELEXTIA arrived, she rushed into the room.

The moment she saw Elmira awake, tears filled her eyes.

  Elmira blinked.

  “SELEXTIA…?”

  “Why are you crying?”

  SELEXTIA tried to calm herself.

“Do you know what happened while you were unconscious?”

  Elmira looked confused.

  “What happened?”

“…Wait. How long was I asleep?”

  “Four days.”

  Elmira’s eyes widened.

  “Four days?!”

She immediately tried to get out of bed.

  SELEXTIA stopped her.

  “Don’t move! You’re still injured!”

  “But I feel fine.”

“You only feel fine because you don’t know what happened.”

  Elmira tilted her head.

  “Huh?”

  “I still want to leave.”

  She stubbornly tried again.

  SELEXTIA sighed.

  Eventually she gave up.

  “…Fine.”

“But tomorrow… come to my house.”

  Elmira raised an eyebrow.

  “Why?”

  SELEXTIA turned away.

  “You’ll understand.”

  Then she left.

  The next day.

  Elmira arrived early.

  She knocked on the door.

  SELEXTIA opened it.

  “You’re early.”

  Elmira grinned.

  “I’m curious.”

“What are you taking me to see?”

  SELEXTIA’s expression darkened slightly.

  “…Just follow me.”

  They walked in silence.

  Elmira kept talking.

  But SELEXTIA never answered.

  Eventually Elmira noticed something strange.

  “…Hey.”

  “Where’s Aerion?”

“Isn’t he usually the one walking with us?”

  SELEXTIA suddenly stopped.

  Her body froze.

  She slowly turned back.

Her expression was colder than Elmira had ever seen before.

  “…Don’t ask.”

  “Just follow me.”

Elmira felt a chill run down her spine.

She had never seen SELEXTIA like this.

  They continued walking.

Soon they arrived at a quiet hill.

  Elmira looked around.

  “…What is this place?”

  Then she noticed something.

  A grave.

There was a photograph on it.

  A young man.

  Elmira’s breathing stopped.

  “…Who… is that?”

  She stepped closer.

  Her eyes widened.

  It was Aerion.

For several seconds, she stood completely still.

  “…No.”

  “…No.”

  “…No…”

  Her voice cracked.

  SELEXTIA spoke coldly.

  “He died.”

“He sacrificed himself to save you.”

  Elmira’s legs collapsed.

She rushed forward and fell beside the grave.

  “WHY?!”

Her scream echoed across the hill.

She grabbed the dirt with both hands.

  “TELL ME WHY!”

  Her tears poured endlessly.

  “…Why did you die?”

  Her body shook violently.

“I didn’t ask you to die for me!”

She looked back at SELEXTIA desperately.

  “This isn’t real… right?”

  SELEXTIA’s voice was empty.

  “…It is real.”

  “Aerion is dead.”

  Elmira began muttering.

  “No… no… no…”

  SELEXTIA turned around.

  She began walking away.

In truth, her heart was breaking.

  But she could not stay.

  Behind her, Elmira screamed.

  “SELEXTIA!”

  “Don’t leave me too!”

  But SELEXTIA kept walking.

Elmira felt something shatter inside her.

She thought she had been abandoned.

  Her eyes became wild.

  Then she started digging.

Her hands clawed violently into the soil.

  “You’re alive…”

  “I know you’re alive!”

  The dirt flew everywhere.

  Her nails broke.

  Her fingers bled.

  But she kept digging.

  Finally—

  She uncovered the wrapped corpse.

  “I knew it!”

  She hugged the body tightly.

  “You’re still here!”

  Then she ran away.

  Later that day.

  SELEXTIA returned.

  She planned to comfort Elmira.

But when she reached the hill—

  She froze.

  The grave was destroyed.

  The coffin was gone.

  Her eyes widened in horror.

  “…Elmira?”

  She ran everywhere.

  She searched the entire city.

  She asked soldiers.

  She asked civilians.

  She even told Elmira’s family.

  But nobody had seen her.

  Night fell.

  SELEXTIA returned home.

  Her body felt empty.

  Several days passed.

  SELEXTIA stayed inside the house.

Until one day her mother spoke.

  “That girl…”

  “She killed people.”

  SELEXTIA froze.

  “What…?”

  “She has killed thirteen people.”

“The authorities are hunting her now.”

  SELEXTIA’s heart sank.

  “No…”

  Her mother continued.

  “Because of her crimes…”

“She will be judged by the Supreme Court.”

  The courtroom was enormous.

Golden pillars stretched high into the sky.

  Angels filled every seat.

  Elmira was brought in chains.

  SELEXTIA tried to approach her.

  But her mother stopped her.

  “You cannot.”

  The trial began.

  Finally the judge spoke.

  “Elmira.”

“For the crime of murdering thirteen people…”

“You are sentenced to banishment from Heaven.”

  The crowd erupted.

  “Throw her out!”

  “She deserves Hell!”

  SELEXTIA trembled.

  She turned away.

  “…Goodbye.”

  Elmira suddenly laughed.

  “He’s not dead!”

“Why won’t you let me bring him back?!”

  The gate to Hell opened.

  Soldiers kicked her forward.

  She fell.

  As she fell—

Her eyes met SELEXTIA’s in the sky.

  Her wings burst into flames.

  White feathers turned black.

  Her angelic light shattered.

  A fallen angel was born.

  The gate closed.

  Far below.

  In the darkness.

  Enma smiled.

  “…It’s finally time.”

“We’re going to kill that old man.”

  “And now…”

“The world is about to change.”
