118. Colin

Chuck charged towards Kristy with a snarl.

Colin’s body tensed with an animalistic aggression, his optimized muscles coiled like a spring, but he didn’t charge blindly like Chuck did. Instead, he fired a mental attack, using the sound waves he heightened Chuck’s subservient instinct, and then attempted to lock him down like he did with the Changed. It didn’t work as well. Chuck was able to resist being locked down, but it affected him enough to cause him to stumble.

That was the moment Colin struck. His coiled muscles sprung at once and without a moment of hesitation, he snapped his jaws down on the hamstring of Chuck’s left leg and ripped it clean off.

Chuck cried out in rage, Colin could sense the fear mixed inside of that rage. Chucks struck out against Colin, but Colin easily dodged out of range, his body optimized for movement and strength.

Chuck might be stronger using a gorilla as his base transformation, but Colin had more experience and more pulses to combine and optimize. Colin could feel that Chuck was incomplete.

“You’re not the pinnacle of evolution,” Colin growled, as he sent another soundwave mixed with emotion to resonate with Chuck’s fear, “You can barely keep up. I would’ve left you alone, but you came from my family and that’s where I draw the line.”

Chuck leaped at Colin with his one good leg, but Colin was ready for him. He could feel his intent and dodged past the blow taking a vicious bite out of Chuck’s bicep. It crunched then tore away with a wet rip.

Chuck managed to grab hold of Colin with his good arm and slammed him to the ground with a devastating amount of strength.

The impact knocked all of the air out of Colin’s lungs. Chuck lifted Colin and swung him towards the ground again,

“Don’t hurt my Daddy,” Jenny screamed and launched a mental attack at Chuck, causing his grip to loosen.

Colin transformed into a dragonfly and was instantly freed of Chuck’s grip.

Colin flew above and behind Chuck, shifted back to his battle form and took a bite out of Chuck’s shoulder.

Chuck cried out, but this time it was more desperation than rage. His eyes went wide and he shouted, “Help me!”

The pit of Colin’s stomach dropped as he sensed Merrin diving and attacking Kristy. Time slowed, and it was all he could do to watch as Merrin sliced Kristy‘s carotid artery.

“No!” Colin leaped to Kristy‘s side.

Merrin seized the opportunity and swooped in to grab Chuck as he transformed into a small bird. She flew off, clutching Chuck in her talons.

Colin didn’t care, he only had eyes for Kristy. His wife was dying in front of him. With the one she took, she could be gone in seconds.
