Chapter LII: Purification and Entertainment (Pt. 2)

"Oat, you could've waited until we at least crossed the border," Fulvia told him.

"Ziro and I are cool. Sort of. Besides, I'm not technically in his sector. We're in the land between our sectors," he replied, shifting into light that entered the ferry bus.

Outside, we crossed the border into the next sector. Despite it being nighttime, there was enough light in the sector to make it look like midday. The sector was filled with people enjoying various entertainment establishments. Theme parks, waterparks, arcades, fun centers, and more. It had everything and even more that you'd never see on Earth. Water activities were conducted on the various rivers flowing throughout the sector. In the center of the sector was a tall yellow tower with "S-05" and a symbol of a white bow engraved on it. I imagine there were even more fun activities inside it.

"Welcome to Sector 05 – the best of the bunch," Oat said enthusiastically, spreading his arms open with glee. With over 240 million residents and tons of frequent visitors, we're the number one place to set up a fun, family vacation. It's almost always sunny, so the fun only ends if you want it to. My Bright Gale Division keeps the sky lit and the breeze welcoming."

"This is amazing!" I had my palms pressed to the glass, marveling at the view. I really wanted to go and try some of the rides down there.

"You enjoy theme parks, I see," Fulvia laughed lightly.

I realized I was behaving unprofessionally and sat back down, coughing a little.

"Hey, no worries," Oat swung his arm around my shoulder. "You're more than welcome to pop by. So long as I don't have orders to put an arrow through your skull," he beamed at me, which made me a little uncomfortable.

I'd forgotten that, despite his outside chipper nature, there seemed to be a dark sense of humor underneath.

"Is that supposed to be a threat?" Tymon glared at him with deadly intent.

"No way, man. That's just how things are. If any of you prove to be a threat to our nation..." he pretended to draw an arrow back and aimed at each of us, "Don't worry. With my skills, you'll never see it coming. Or feel it. I'm nice that way."

"Thanks? I guess?" I responded nervously, while telepathically telling them not to pick a fight.

"Oat. I think they get it," Fulvia said in a tone that warned him to ease up.

Oat quickly changed the subject by looking at Avarice and getting up.

"Oh, hey, the stockpiler! I'm one too. How does your copy ability work?" he extended a hand to the Avarice.

Avarice stood, not comfortable being looked down at, before shaking his hand.

"I'm not keen on revealing my abilities to others unnecessarily."

"Really? Guess that's smart. Here, let me show you what my Storage can do," Oat sent some of his energy through Avarice's hand before then taking a little in return. This exchange established a connection he needed to activate his ability.

An energy-bade display of two miniature orbs appeared above Avarice's hand. One was greyish-white with five black dots while the other was a golden orb that appeared to flow like liquid gold.

"Hm?" Avarice inspected them before saying, "Are these...?"

"Your innate cintracies," Oat replied. "I can't copy the cintracies you've copied, but these two are yours."

The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

"Whoa, so this is what a cintracy looks like?" I got closer in awe. "I bet there aren't many that get to see what their cintracies look like."

"How are you able to view them?" Avarice asked him.

"My Storage cintracy is similar to your Xerox in the fact that it allows me to copy other cintracies uniquely. Based on how many cintracies your bio card shows and what's displayed here, I take it you can only copy a few cintracies. Mine lets me copy up to 15, though as a caveat, I can only use a copied cintracy once per 24 hours. I can also directly choose what I want to copy. Like this..."

He touched the miniature version of Avarice's Xerox and then said, "Ah, permanent copying. Useful." Seemingly getting a better understanding of how the cintracy works through contact with it.

Then, before him, a display of over a dozen mini cintracies appeared.

"Gotta be careful when doing this," he spoke as he looked over his cintracies like they were playing cards. "See, I only get a 30-second window to copy. Once that window closes, I'm never able to copy from that cindarian again."

"Ah, won't be needing this one anymore," he picked up one of the various cintracies in his Storage before putting Xerox in its place and discarding the other one, causing it to dissipate.

Once the spiritual display faded, he opened his hand, revealing the small, dark hole in it from before. As we watched, the miniature Xerox popped out of the hole and into his grasp.

"Tada! Now I have Xerox too!" he gleamed. "Thanks for the upgrade, man!" He said, strolling away from Avarice.

"Copying a copy ability with copy ability seems redundant, no?" Avarice asked as Oat made his way to the door.

"You think too rigidly, man. Gotta be more creative. Maybe one day you'll get to see what I can really do with it," he said as his green shades shimmered before he changed into a swirl of wind. "Anyway, gotta go. Thanks for the upgrade, dude."

Really hoping he doesn't become our enemy. Sucks if we just gave an enemy an easier way to kill us, Za'Fia remarked telepathically.
