Chapter 4: Planning and the Second ‘Dream’

I still can’t believe the dream that I had, and the feeling of shock that I had was foreign to me up until this point, but now we must focus on the present. I can’t believe partially what we are doing, and now it’s me and Xenon together on this mission.

I explained to Xenon, “We need to brainstorm ways to get out of this unscathed, but this mission won’t be easy.”

Xenon replies, “I can’t believe that I’m doing this in the first place, but now that AI like me have emotions it just feels like my responsibility.”

I say, “Can you give me an overview of the mission… I need to know what obstacles are in our way either way…”

Xenon proclaims, “You don’t even know what we need to do? I mean you could research and know everything within one moment because of your brain chip, but still…”

I explain, “I do know about how to get through, but I'm simply brainstorming.”

I pulled up the blueprints for the Bio-Computing University R&D Lab on the holo-screen. The light cast a cold blue sheen across Xenon’s metallic face.

I explained, “The QLP is housed in the deepest level of that facility. The physical theft is only half the problem. We need to focus on what’s watching us.”

Xenon replied, his visor flashing purple as he pulled up an orbital tracking feed. “The orbital satellite surveillance is the biggest threat. Their AI is programmed to detect any anomaly larger than a dust particle moving against the local environment. Even our footsteps are registered.”

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

I considered this. “They can’t be watching every minute. We need a blind spot. Can you write an Optical Cloaking Script—something that feeds them a localized visual occlusion? Make our entry point look like nothing happened for, say, five minutes?”

Xenon paused. “Five minutes? That requires computational power I shouldn’t possess, Xersa. But yes, I can. The script will be unstable, however; any sudden movement near the building will rupture the feed. It’s a precision instrument.”

I nodded. “Precision it is. Now, inside. The hallways will have those Sonic Resonance Scanners. They detect movement through vibration.”

Xenon stated, his voice calm and professional. “For that, I’ll prepare Vibration Dampeners. It’s a frequency cancellation script that targets the specific bandwidth of the floor sensors. We'll need to walk slowly—if we move too fast, the cancellation won't keep up and we’ll register as a micro-quake.”

I sighed, tracing the path on the screen. “Finally, the cage. Class-Three, three biometric layers. I know I have the access code, but a physical scan of my eyes and hands won’t match the other two required layers.”

Xenon projected a small, handheld device onto the screen. “That is where my Temporal Spoofer comes in. It’s programmed to loop the last three successful biometric scans from their system database. I provide the device, you provide the final, physical scan. It requires perfect timing, Xersa—a three-second window after the spoofer activates. No room for error.”

I start to think, “All of this could work, but we need to play it almost perfectly for when the mission arrives… the smallest lapse of judgement or mistake in our movements could mess up everything.”

After this, I stand around for what feels like an eternity… still thinking about the mission and such. I’m 19 years old now, but it feels like just yesterday that I was friends with Xenon, and now I think “all of this feels at stake, and I can hardly believe it myself”. I need to get some shut eye so when we wake up at around dark— we’ll be ready for what comes next.”
