Chapter 29: Nolans attack

Adam squinted his eyes, unable to believe the sight, Nolan was dragging Althea’s mother as he crossed the causeway.

Elana was alive Adam thought from the hopeless flailing against Nolan whose appearance had been different than the last time they had seen him.

He appeared to have grown taller and the grey skin had consumed most of his body with some small green spikes even protruding from his arms but the most noticeable was the horn on one side of his forehead that had seemed to continue to grow, resembling that of a devil.

After a few minutes Nolan had arrived at the shore, he seemed to be keeping his pace slow, as if time was on his side and it probably was Adam thought.

“You had new friends?” Nolan asked with a smile.

  “Old ones,” Adam answered cautiously.

Nolan seemed to eye each one of them, his gaze resting at Charlie the longest, he even slightly tilted his head for a moment before he finally spoke.

“Oh, cool, how does that work out for you? You seemed rather- tired”

“Let go of my mother” Said Althea, her hand had once again started shaking as she raised her bow but this time her eyes had a fierce determination in them.

Which Nolan had seen but reacted with only a smirk.

“Of course, but drop all your weapons first, and you-“ Nolan said looking at Kleoff who was beside the machine gun.

  “Move away from that”

The group looked at each other, anxious to do as they were told.

“What? Did you now hear me? Do I have to get closer?” Nolan said, his voice now louder and he gripped Althea’s mother in the neck tighter, raising her completely off the ground.

The group was left with no choice but to drop their weapons. Kleoff stepped away from the machine gun with the rest of the group. Althea stared for another few seconds with her bow still raised before finally dropping it to the ground.

“See? It wasn’t that hard was it?” said Nolan as he let go of Althea’s mother.

She coughed and fell to her knees as Nolan merely walked past her, stepping closer to the group who anxiously took a step back.

“Were you the one at Kiel’s house?” Asked Kate, who Adam thought was probably trying to buy them time, if time would help them anyways.

“Yes, so you saw it? That’s just great.”

“How did you know about that place?” Just as Kate asked Nolan, Althea went to check her mother, Nolan seemed to notice her but he paid no mind instead he answered Kate’s question.

“That’s stupid I have been there; with you and Adam can’t you remember?” Nolan replied with a smirk on his face, his green eyes seemed to glow ominously.

  What? Adam thought.

He had never been to Kiel’s house, what does he mean by that?

“That’s not of importance, what’s important is you’re here” Nolan said staring directly at Adam.

“But you got Kiel already so why do you need us?” Adam asked.

“No, no, not them, just you- it might be a little hard to explain but let’s just say you should be more careful with your wishes next time” He took a step forward, now just a few feet away from them.

Wish? Why does he know that? He hadn’t even told Kate about it. How could he possibly know that?

The rest of the group seemed to look at Adam, searching for an answer or some sort of clarification of what Nolan meant.

“Regardless, I don’t need to explain anything you’ll start to understand it one way or another” As Nolan spoke these words he started dashing towards their direction.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Kate was about to pick up her rifle from the ground, but Nolan was faster, he kicked her on his abdomen so strongly that it had sent her reeling backwards. Kleoff tried to intervene as well but was easily pushed to the side by Nolan.

Nolan was to grab Adam by his neck when suddenly a hand stopped his arm. He tried harder but the hand was able to restrict his movements.

He turned round and saw a new face, wearing a cowboy hat and staring at him with a smile.

Adam realized Charlie was able to stop Nolan who seemed to be just as surprised as he was. Adam immediately used the opportunity to pull the knife from his jacket. Nolan's attention still wasn’t directed to him, he raised his knife to strike directly at his face, however as he started to bring the knife down Nolan’s eyes stared at him and grabbed his hand with the knife inches away from his face.

With a single hand Nolan lifted Adam off the ground and threw him to the side, not far from Kleoff's direction.

“You- I knew it “ Nolan spoke in almost a whisper. He used his other hand to grab Charlie's neck but before he could even reach him Charlie managed to catch him by his arm.

“I thought you were meant to be strong” Charlie said as he gripped both of Nolan's arms.

Just as he spoke these words a smile formed at Nolan's face.

Suddenly he pulled Charlie closer and kicked him in his stomach, the pain had sent Charlie down to his knees as he started coughing some blood.

“Just because you have some strength dont mean you're stronger than me” Nolan smirked as he crouched in front of Charlie.

He was about to hit Charlie one more time when he saw Althea running away from the shore.

Nolan tilted his head and was about to chase her when a knife struck his back.

He suddenly paused and clicked his tongue as he turned around to see Adam standing a few feet away from him.

Hissing, Nolan plucked out the knife off his back and started running towards Adam.

Weaponless, Adam was unable to retaliate nor escape from Nolan. The man grabbed his neck and lifted him off the ground with a single hand.

Nolan was still holding the knife on his other hand, seeming amused at Adam's struggle.

“It doesn't matter if your friend escapes, you're the one I need anyways,” Nolan said with a smile that creeped Adam out.

He was hopelessly trying to escape Nolan’s grasp but it was pointless, he was too strong.

Adam also wondered what he meant by needing him, it was Kiel who he wanted to kill when he arrived at the island and now he wants him dead as well? What changed?

His thoughts started fading as his vision was starting to blur as well from the lack of oxygen.

It was then when a female voice called Nolan to stop.

He turned around and saw Kate with his rifle raised directly at him.

Nolan smirked and used his eyes to point at the sky. This of course confused Kate. Unsure of what Nolan meant he glanced up at the sky. Then she noticed it, the clouds seemed to move differently as if it was circling them and at a faster pace than what she assumed clouds could move at.

Before Kate even realizes what she was staring at the figure of what she thought was a cloud dived towards her. The impact was so strong that it had sensed her straight to a lamp post and almost completely bending it.

She coughed blood as she felt her organs shuffle from being pierced by her own broken bones.

She tried to look at her attacker and she realized that it was the grey from the horde. She remembered Adam shooting it but with their regeneration it had not been enough.

Fortunately the creature didn't attack any further. It seemed to have been satisfied at disarming her.

Unsure of what to do Kate was left to watch as Nolan continued to talk to Adam, his voice just loud enough for her to hear.

“It's useless, i’ll kill everyone you know and you would be the last one”

Adam struggled and used some of his strength to reply.

  “Wh-y? You don't fee-l like… No-l…an, you're no-t him”

Nolan suddenly broke into a laugh, he seemed amused knowing something than no one else does.

“I told you would know eventually, but when that time comes it would probably be too late for you”

Nolan raised his knife however before he could proceed a gunshot was fired, hitting him by the shoulders.

He flinched and accidentally dropped Adam to the ground. Nolan turned around and it was Kleoff who fired and picked up his brother's revolver, his wand was shaking as he stared directly at Nolan's green eyes.

He was not used to using guns so his aim was more off than he would have liked. As the winged grey heard the gun shoot and turned at the boy's direction and screeched but to Adam's surprise Nolan stopped the grey by raising one of his hands. The creature stepped back and focused on Kate as Nolan felt the wound on his shoulder’s slowly closing.

Before charging directly Nolan checked his surrounding first, Adam was on the ground just beside him, The other girl had just run away, this boy with a revolver was a few feet away in front of him, Charlie, the man with a hat was also few feet way near the grey and Kate, he seemed to be quickly recovering and was watching them from a far.

Just then an idea hit Nolan.

He turned his back to the boy who still had the revolver aimed at him and instead faced Charlie who was farther.

“Are you close? That's a stupid question. I mean, are you related in some way? You like alike”

  Nolan asked.

Charlie however didn't reply, he was clutching his stomach as he barely tried to stand up.

“I guess I'll assume you were”

As Nolan said these words he cracked his neck a little as if to stretch before suddenly charging at Kleoff.

Surprised, Kleoff fired three shots immediately however only one managed to hit and it was at Nolan's arm.

With almost just a second Nolan had closed the distance and slashed Kleoff's raised hand.

Blood gushed out of his arm as the hand dropped to the ground still holding the revolver tightly.

Kleoff fell to his knees as he screamed in pain and gripped his arm that just lost a hand.

He tried to feel his hand, to move his fingers but all he felt was a pain and an empty sensation of something missing.

His arm was burning in pain and blood was everywhere, eventually his vision faded and he fell on the ground unconscious, inches away from his own severed hand.
