Chapter 95. The kids are still here, just not in the limelight.

It had been a couple of hectic weeks for the kids, their world turned upside down. Not only had they gone through one hell of a chaotic mess that was the disappearance of Valkia, what with them escaping that doomed place by a hair's breadth, but they had also lost their 'father figure' in the process. Sure, they themselves did not take the whole 'you are just kids' shtick Jack went along with, but it could not be denied that they had grown to depend and rely on him quite a lot. Now, they were once again alone, though thankfully not stranded since Jack could still communicate with them and even provide new gear when necessary through their specially linked storage ring set. And what a relief had that been when Jack contacted them the first time after his disappearance. It would be a lie to say that more than a few tears of relief rolled down everyone's cheeks, though no one but perhaps Kaede and Kenji would admit it outright.

And so on they had gone with their lives, all the more determined to grow stronger so they could reunite with their guildmaster and friend as soon as possible. With the help of the merchant Ramia, they had traveled towards the next town that could offer them plenty of places to grind through monsters roaming in the locations surroundings, filled with promises of dungeon presence all around- one just had to have a bit of luck in running into one.

The place was called- The Graveyard of discarded divine toys. Quite the ominous name, though it was rather fitting for the place. It was a coastal location, with numerous small islands scattered all around, each interconnected with several others by what could only be explained as some sort of corral bridges, creating a rather exotic looking maze of sorts. The islands themselves were covered in a rather peculiar fog, allowing one to see their outlines from quite the distance, but at the same time making it impossible to scout the places from afar. Only by crossing the necessary corral bride that brought you over to the island in question could one observe and explore it.

The islands themselves were quite the sight as well, providing some amount of understanding of why the place was called as it was. Each and every one of the islands they had visited so far had a rather similar theme to them- a random climate fauna combined with plenty of alien looking pillars scattered all around. These pillars were made in all manner of sizes, going anywhere from a few dozen centimeters in height, all the way to dozens, perhaps even hundreds of meters tall. The fog conveniently concealed the upper end of said giant pillars, leaving the kids wondering about it all.

And then there were the monsters that inhabited the place. They too made people wonder if some god was playing around with creating life and throwing all of his failures down here, filling the place with downright staggering amount of monster species that then called his place their home. One might take the statement rather lightheartedly, perhaps even mocking those that held such a view, only to be stunned at the sight of a large number of said monsters. Simply chimeric creatures of who knows what make would have made sense, at least for the most part, but that too was not the case.

There were Glares- floating eyeball like monsters with three to seven bony paws that rotated around them, seemingly attached through telepathy or some similar thing. Who knows what they fed on, for there were no mouth or stomach on those things. Worse yet, when chasing down whatever it was they stalked, they would occasionally release sound that reminded people of half hysterica, half maddened laughter, tuned to as high a pitch as ones ear could perceive.

Cuboids were another of the more weird creatures that stalked some of the islands. As the name suggested, they looked much like a cube- a geometrical object that has eight vertices and twelve straight edges of the same length, so that these edges form six square faces of the same size. It even had a rock like texture on the outside. That was however where the similarities ended, as the creature had two, enormous mouths filled with razor sharp, always seemingly bloody ten rows of teeth. It was also extremely aggressive and bloodthirsty, as if taking personal offense towards anyone who saw it even for a second, demanding said observers life as a price for the transgression.

Then there was the Mad Arsenal- an entity containing several to dozens of seemingly living weapons, all floating around a single object or variable make- it could be anything from an old, treasure chest like looking container, all the way up to a simple, uninspiring pebble one could find on a side of any road really. The only way to deal with these monsters was to find out its actual core and then pierce it, all while avoiding getting sliced apart and skewered by the number of swords it had floating around.

There were also monsters that made slightly more sense, made out of flesh and bone, though even those, much like Glares, were weird looking, sometimes even downright disturbing. Like, for example, Nurkas. The creature had a mouse head with seven, admittedly short tentacles serving as their ears, each one swinging back and forth, seemingly entirely independent of one another. Slap that head then onto the body of an elephant, with the size of one as well, and for good measure add unreasonably tiny, useless eagle wings to its back and finish the ensemble off with a rather large peacock tail that remains open almost perpetually. Then, to make things more interesting, allow it to spew fire and you have a creature that boggles the mind. Worse yet, Nurkas were not even close to the title of the weirdest creature inhabiting the Divine Graveyard of discarded toys.

It was a good place for grinding experience and materials though, as almost every part of these monster bodies was used in some capacity- be it as materials for item crafting, alchemical potions or even consumption. But therein also lay the problem. The place was filled with all manner of adventurers, mercenaries and every other type that you would expect, including criminals and the scum of the earth.

The sun was about to set, its last rays of light illuminating the slowly darkening coastal city that existed just outside of the Graveyard of the divine toys, creating quite the sight if one was inclined to silent, natural beauty. Most adventurers scouring the small islands had returned by now, splitting their spoils or already enjoying an evening after a day of hard work. In one of the many, many lively inns of the city, a rather peculiar group sat and relaxed at their table, each with a mug of their own in hand. The group consisted of nine people, only one among whom was a man- the rest were girls of various ages, though the vast majority were young, just barely adults by modern earth standards.

"Good work today out there team." Izumi Nakamura lifted her mug and toasted her team, a slight smile tugging at her lips. The time spent together with her group had helped her open up more and more, discarding her previous, cold hearted CEO training and mentality. Now, she was teams de- facto leader when it came to dealing with other groups and politics, with the rest of management defaulting to Kaede. The other girl, leaning against Kenji lazily smiled in turn and lifted her own mug in response, seemingly other thoughts already filling her mind.

The shrine maiden's distracted thoughts did not escape the notice of the rest of their group, with Fumiko instantly grabbing the opportunity to tease her. "Hey, miss closet pervert, could you keep your mind clear of sex for at least a while longer?" It was just that obvious how often the two lovebirds were engaging in recreational intimacy.

"Ohh, someone's feeling jealous? Sucks for you, but I am not sharing my Kenji." Kaede shot back lazily, a small smirk sneaking on her face as she added " Not unless you ask very, very nicely. I might consider then."

"What nonsense are you spouting!" Fumiko instantly shot back, clearly flustered at being called out "Who would want Kenji anyways. Huff."

"Besides, she has a hard crush on Jack. No way is she settling for anything less." from side chimed in Emi, calmly snacking on her own, special snacks from her personal snack bag- an object she protected like some irreplicable historical relic.

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

"You little!..." Fumiko immediately flipped around, her face even redded as she lunged at the contractor, using the most deadly and dangerous weapon at her disposal designed specifically to deal with the other girl. With merciless and remorseless expression, Funiko proceeded to tickle the other girl, ignoring the tear filled laugher and pleas for mercy. No one got to air her dirty laundry without paying the price, especially so when even time without being directly next to Jack had done nothing to lessen the crush.

The rest of the team around them just watched on, smiling and even encouraging one or the other party. lifting their mugs and taking a sip every now and then. The group would spend an hour or so every other time they returned from their outings, learning to appreciate the small moments between their training and battles. As fate would have it, today was one of those days when even that short moment of peace would be taken away from them however.

It did not matter where you went, there were always pricks that believed themselves too strong, cool, smooth- or whatever other superior quality they deemed fit- that all the pretty ladies around them were either openly or secretly wishing to get into their beds.

"Well, well. well, what do we have here? A bunch of pretty ladies, all by themselves? We can't have that, now can we?" a slightly drunk slur of words reached their table as a group of men approached them- grins on their faces as their eyes ran over the bodies of all the girls present.

"Get lost you scum before our patience wears thin." Mika almost growled, her face losing its relaxed and content expression, replaced with cold indifference, bordering on- slightly shifting into even- disgust and detest. as an Iron willed Justicar, she did not even have to look the men's way to tell they were scum. Their tone, and the whispers she could overhear were enough to not only awaken her hostility towards benm but even stoke it into a raging inferno. Kate, sitting right next to Mika shoved similar expression, her hands already clenching into fists as she prepared herself for a bloody follow up.

"You heard my friend. Walk away and everyone leaves this place happy, and in one piece." Izumi warned as well, though just like Kate and Mika, she too did not turn around to lock eyes with whoever it was that spoke to their group.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Such temper." the same voice came once again, this time much closer than before. It was clear that whoever had been talking, was coming closer, clearly ignoring their advice.

"That's right boss. Let's show them pretty ladies how to relax for real." that and a whole other, less appropriate comments and that, washed over the kids table, the approaching men clearly having already decided to see things through.

"Haaa, you asked for it." Kaede finally chimed in, her face clearly annoyed "Go for it Mika." she then glanced at Kate, adding "You too Kate. Let your class do its thing."

With the green light given, both survivors stood up almost simultaneously, turning towards the group, all the while Izumi stood up too, heading over to the counter where she called on the man in charge, dropped a sizable bag of coins in his hands with a single remark added "For the damages." With that said, she turned around, exhaled with annoyance and walked back over, squeezing her shoulders as she rolled her head.

The moment Mika stood up, turned towards their unwelcomed company and laid her eyes upon them, she began to list out their crimes "Theft, extorsion, murder, kidnapping" she listed the crimes one after another, her voice chilly and seemingly lifeless. Or so it was until the last crime she spotted on the long list. With that, her voice turned frigid, as though the whole room had just been submerged in near frozen water "Rape."

The air around them instantly shifted, with Kate taking immediate action once she heard the last word, her hands raised and connecting with the closest chin she could reach.

  SMASH! CRACK!

Two loud and unmistakable sounds resounded immediately one after another as Kate's fist connected, blasting the unlucky sod away as the sound of his jaw breaking resounded across the inn, immediately followed by cheers and cries of excitement from the remaining patrons. What kind of adventurer could ever hate a little brawl to watch as they downed their own beers. Once the first unlucky bastard had been sent flying, she ducked low, avoiding a friend of the first one as he tried to grab her by the throat, clearly still under the mistaken impression they had what it took the wrestle her to the ground. She then followed with an uppercut, her fist connecting cleanly with the chin of the fool whos attempt at grappling she had just dodged.

Blood splattered in a wide arc from the side as Mika had just landed her own first heavy strike to the face of another of the bastards, the unlucky one losing a couple of teeth from the impact and spitting them out as his face was forcibly turned by the raw strength of Mikas punch. As if not wanting to be outdone, Kate followed up, stepping into the range of yet another fool and delivering a similar strike to Mika's earning herself a couple of knocked out teeth and a small spray of blood from the unlucky fools mouth. Not that she even knew she was doing it, her rage against the scum who would rape innocent girls boiling over.

The speed and power both Mika and Kate displayed caught the fools of guard, the bastards realizing they might have just chewed off more than they could bite. As their leader, the man who had spoken but had not been quite at the very front of their advance, was even considering slipping away, only to find out that their escape route had already been cut off. Two of the groups girls were standing in front of the exit by now, both holding weapons. One was equipped with a katana while the other held a rapier and a buckler. And sure, the weapons seemed simple, most definitely not some super expensive and fancy gear, but their stances spoke of tons of combat experience despite their youth. What to do then? In front of him and his group were two brawlers with female features, with another decent number of possible assistants just further behind them. Behind them- two fully armed and skilled fighters.

  -----------------

"Sheesh. You would think that we would get al least a single night of no chaos, but nooo, somebody always has to start something!" complained and whined one of the guards as their group was rushing towards the place mentioned. They had just received a report of a brawl in one of the taverns. Now, in an everyday scenario a simple tavern brawl would be ignored more likely than not, with the problem resolving itself within minutes of said information reaching them. This particular case was not one of those, if for no other fact that the inn in question was the one place Stolen Constellation used to relax and drink. And that, was a problem he did not want to fester and grow out of control.

One might wonder, what's so special about a relatively fresh adventurer interra arriving and deciding on a spot for their relaxation and then said spot being a bit rowdy? Normally- nothing, but it just so happened that the guard captain had seen said group in action out of the corner of his eye, as well as was he aware that they had ties with the merchant Ramia. No smart man would ever provoke such entities if it was at all possible.

The moment they arrived it was clear no quiet could be hoped for for the foreseeable future. Before them lay a bunch of horrendously looking men in similar condition. Faces heavily bloodied, with no doubt numerous teeth missing, groaning in pain and no doubt questioning their last few choices.

"All right guys, lets round them up and see what's going on in there." the captain called out, gesturing for his boys to get to work, only for their group to freeze in place the next second.

With a loud, almost shriek life, pitched voice, yet another man flew out, landing not too far from the captain himself. Then another man came in a similar fashion, and another, and another. Shortly after, came the one group none of the local guards wanted to see right now. Stollen Constellation came out next, leading the group were Mika and Kate- yet another two people in particular most of the local guards knew like close neighbors. You just don't stay ignorant when an Avenger and Justicar rolls into your town. That's not how things worked in this world.

Thankfully, a small mercy that, Mika noticed the guards near instantly, wordlessly offering the guard captain a set of her appraisals which he accepted immediately.

'Well, they are fucked beyond belief.' the guard captain immediately realised. raised his hand into air and called out. "Men, stand by. The Justicar and Avenger will deal with them first. We only pick up the pieces afterwards."

"Yes sir!" resounded a unified cry, the guards immediately stopping and stepping back, earning a quick nod of approval from both Kate and Mika, though it was so small one with less sharp eyes would have missed it.

A large, two handed sword materialed in one's hands, while the other now held a nasty looking mace. This was about to get ugly, that was for sure, but also well deserved. No scum like that should ever get off easy.

Mika raised her mace into air and slammed it down, crushing the family jewels of the first bastard, destroying any chance for the scum to use his special tools ever again. He action caused all the guards to wince in pain, their legs instinctively closing at the sight. Kate was no better, her two hander slicing down and delivering similar results. A single thought crossing the minds of all guards present 'the rumors must be true then, Those two had gone through some horrible shit and were traumatized. better never so much as look at them wrong.'
