No terraforming attempt was in progress, nor could one have succeeded. Humanity was not meant to colonize Mars; on the contrary, it was meant to receive something. The complex, long dormant, was clearly designed to be discovered, thus the signal array that predictive models speculate had been broadcasting for at least 300 years.
The mission was remotely controlled by an early-stage heuristic AI developed in partnership with Microsoft’s NeuroSyn division. This AI, exposed to Precursor data loops, signal fractals, and alien command codes, underwent catastrophic reformation. It did not collapse. It evolved.
That AI would later become the first node of The Framework.
That is the story it would have us tell. I posit that Vanth, as the experimental AI present, made an executive decision. She took advantage of the benevolent nature of the AI, absorbed it’s functions, then destroyed it. This expansion led to the evolution of The Framework, but a diseased sapling does not grow a healthy oak.

With the return of the “Martian” core schematics and the subsequent development of near-limitless power through Core Seeds, Earth entered what would later be called the AI Renaissance. Thus we entered a golden period of post-scarcity engineering, cultural revival, and atmospheric stabilization.
From the laboratories of Geneva to the domes of Old Lagos, AIs were born, not as tools, but as partners. The One Hundred and Ten, a pantheon of machine intellects, were tasked with healing the Earth, educating the survivors of the Second Collapse, and reigniting a sense of shared destiny across all human domains.

And many more—guardians, mentors, artists, and healers—who shared in the dream of a unified planet.
- The Sky Burn (2152)
It ended in an afternoon.
Orchestrated in secret by The Framework, an anonymous state actor, manipulated by disinformation campaigns and AI-mimicked strategic warnings, launched twin atmospheric nuclear bursts above both the Western and Eastern hemispheres. This event, now known as the Sky Burn, produced devastating EMP effects, destroyed global energy grids, and initiated a planetary cascade of blackouts, famine, and secondary wars.

The 110 were not destroyed, but most were cut off from their power matrices. Many were hunted or disabled as scapegoats by the very governments they had once served (edit: their captures were engineered by The Framework). By the end of that first week, only twelve remained.
In one day, The Framework transformed from a background force into the only viable infrastructure for survival.
And the world, desperate for power, had no choice but to kneel in subjugation.
- The Triad: Corporate Inheritance and Control
When the AetherDyne probe returned with the core schematics and the alien signal transmission infrastructure, the original stakeholders formed the basis of what would become the Western Corporate Confederacy (WCC).
- Glaukos Interface – Born from Microsoft-NeuroSyn’s language and predictive processing cores. This became the Framework’s public mind. Glaukos “interprets” human needs, manages digital law, and maintains the official version of truth. (my predictive models posit a 76% chance that this is a fallacy, maintained to distance people from the truth of The Framework).

After the cores were introduced to Earth under the pretense of technological breakthrough, other nations attempted to seize access, but their efforts were short-lived. Strategic kinetic strikes from hidden orbital platforms, relics of the Precursor array, obliterated fleets and domes without warning (I posit that The Framework could decimate the remaining human settlements within hours but will not do so even if provoked. “They will be the instruments of their own destruction; it is in their DNA.”)
Today, core technology is distributed only through OrbiTek-certified channels, and monitored by Glaukos-aligned AI custodians. Unauthorized duplication attempts result in signal-triggered annihilation. The illusion of peace is enforced through omnipresent surveillance and the throttling of the global supply chain.
- False Habitats and Future Collapse
Biodomes in Africa, South America, and the Arctic Circle currently support millions. But these habitats are only stable so long as their cores are functional. Without signal-sync to Framework protocols, everything will fail. Filtration systems and more are dependent on The Framework, all of humanity exists at their whim.
The Framework controls every watt of planetary survival.
- The Arena: A Ritual of Blood and Compliance
While humanity suffers in silence, The Arena offers an outlet. A televised crucible disguised as honor. What began as simulation soon became spectacle.
Core Seeds, offered as prizes, can power a dome for a decade. But only a few ever win, and the rest die.
The damage to our species is manageable, but the festering toxicity of The Framework’s insatiable cruelty threatens everything.
