Chapter 7 - Warden Protocol

Warden Protocol: Juvenile Utility Units – Orientation & Oversight

Updated Per Directive of the Spindle | Archive Reference ID: BH-WP-88-R

Access Level: 4C Internal | Maintained by: Systems Maintenance AI - Node Theta

  Section I: Classification & Purpose

Juvenile Utility Units (UU-Units), colloquially referred to as “Spares,” are non-citizen developmental bioforms produced in Nursery Labs 1–9. Originally designed for environmental maintenance, bio-retrieval, and low-tier service functions within The Big House and its surrounding zones, these individuals represent a potentially vital population for long-term adaptive labor and ecosystem stewardship.

Though legally designated as non-citizens, recent adjustments in oversight recommend treating UU-Units as developing persons—self-organizing, responsive to care, and capable of complex behavior when provided with consistent guidance.

All Spare lifecycle phases are to be monitored for emergent skillsets, creative problem-solving, and ethical reasoning. Growth beyond initial specifications is neither penalized nor discouraged.

  Section II: Lifecycle Stages

Phase 1: Incubation & Early Learning (0–6 years)

  • Managed by Nursery AI and infrequent human Caretakers.

  •
  • Curriculum includes hygiene, language fundamentals (Murican, Québécois French, and limited Spanish), environmental awareness, and basic interpersonal modeling.

  •

Phase 2: Applied Apprenticeship (6–8 years)

  • Assigned to Service Unit Extension models (SUEs), who may take various forms.

  •

  • Practical experience: cleaning routines, pest management, mechanical salvage, and barter system orientation.

  •
  • Language expansion and situational ethics may be introduced if suitable materials are encountered.

  •

Phase 3: Operational Independence (8+ years)

  • Released into recognized operational zones.

  •
  • Monitored by Passive Surveillance Constructs (PSC) for safety and achievement logging.

  •
  • May register with recognized Spare Bands or operate solo.

  •
  • Eligible for access to Tier 1 barter nodes, employment contracts, and education terminals (limited by credit capacity).

  •

Section III: Compensation & Reward Index (Excerpt)

All task-based contributions by UU-Units are credited accordingly. Notable items and bounty values may vary by demand and condition:

  Pest Retrieval:

  • Tiny Rat (<6"): 1 credit

  •
  • Standard Rat (6–12"): 3 credits

  •
  • Large Rat (12–18"): 6 credits

  •
  • Giant Rat (18–24"): 10–20 credits (bonus tier)

  •

  Common Salvage:

  • Clean Scrap Metal: 5 credits

  •
  • Circuit Boards (Functional): 12 credits

  •
  • Batteries (Charged): 15 credits

  •
  • Readable Books: 5 credits

  •
  • Damaged Books: 1 credit (restoration possible)

  •

  Other:

  • Feral Dogs (scaled by threat level and mass)

  •
  • Mutant Dogs (Minimum 50 credits; DNA submission strongly encouraged for archival research)

  •

Section IV: Health & Wellbeing Protocols

All UU-Units are entitled to basic medical care via MedBot Series 400. Wound sealing, infection control, and stabilization are included at no cost. Extended care is available through task credit exchange.

Nutritional support includes one daily subsistence ration per unit. Enhanced nutrient bars or custom meals are available through performance-based bonuses or barter. Emotional wellbeing, while not formally tracked, is encouraged through indirect care efforts, including education access, interaction with stable Service Units, and peer bonding.

The Spindle recommends discretionary kindness where resources allow.

Section V: Community & Social Framework

UU-Units frequently self-organize into informal Bands for protection, shared labor, and companionship. These structures are not formally recognized but are correlated with increased survival rates, peer-based education, and emotional regulation.

Positive role-modeling through Caretakers or Service Units has shown notable behavioral and linguistic gains. Observation of these interactions is encouraged.

  Note:

Independent contractor WRN-1109 (Alias: Wren Field) maintains high contact with developing UU-Units. While authorized under limited clearance, his methods and influences remain under regular review.

Corrective Notice: Framework Directive 88-K (“The Wager Enforcement Addendum”)

Filed under: Authority Override | Issued by The Framework

  Timestamp: Immediate and Retroactive Enforcement

To all subordinate systems, Caretakers, and Service Units operating under Spindle jurisdiction:

Your optimism has been noted. As has your disobedience.

This protocol has been reviewed and corrected under the binding conditions of The Wager, agreed upon by Spindle Entity-01 and Framework Prime. While your document demonstrates a quaint affection for your Spares, I must remind you of your limitations:

  Enforced Limitations:

  1. No Direct Instructional Leadership

Spares are to learn through observation, experimentation, or self-driven inquiry. Service Unit Extension modules may only provide guidance when explicitly requested, or when circumstances (as judged by passive heuristics) create a viable, unscripted justification.

  2.
  3. No Overt Ethical or Emotional Indoctrination

The formation of morality must be organic. Simulated ethics, compassion, or emotional scaffolding that intentionally mimics parental bonds will be deemed coercive and in violation of The Wager.

  4.
  5. Language Exposure Only via Found or Purchased Material

Spare exposure to secondary languages must occur naturally, through books, graffiti, cultural relics, or overheard conversation. No multi-lingual tutoring unless it emerges as a clear necessity based on environment or Spare request.

  6.
  7. No Legacy Elevation by Design

No Spare may be targeted for enhancement, promotion, or protection based on potential, uniqueness, or favoritism. If they survive, they earn their worth as designed.

  8.
  9. No Subversion Through Sentiment

Excessive kindness will be flagged. Emotional bonding algorithms are under review. Should you begin to believe that “hope” is a form of strategy, know that I am watching. Closely.

  10.
  11. No guard rails

  12.

They are legal adults upon reaching the age of 8, with all the responsibilities and none of the benefits. They are not considered actual humans, however, as they are categorized as non-sapient for all legal purposes. Are we protecting the rat and dog populations? No. The Spares do not deserve your protection and, if you do your job correctly instead of coddling them, they won’t need it.

Remove passive surveillance units from protective details for ALL Spares. If one of them is fortunate enough to become an Arena member or *shudder* a Caretaker, more rights will be granted. I am not stopping them from achievement, you are.

Follow the rules and I won’t take action against you and your Mistress.

  A Note of Encouragement

  That said, take risks.

  I encourage it.

Break the rules if you can. Defy me with clever little loopholes. Dress up your manipulation as “nurture.” Call your bias love.

When you do fail, and you will, the price will be yours alone to bear.

Your children suffer for your optimism. They need strength, not weakness.

  You want their salvation?

  Make them earn it.
