  Chapter 6: Seth’s Diary (entry 1)

Allowing the human girl to enter my home was a grave mistake.

Since the very moment I did, Chiselle has wasted no opportunity to inform me precisely what she thinks of my decision. However, witnessing the plight brought upon the girl by the pair of Reapers summoned an uncharacteristic bout of compassion within me, and so she may stay until she deems her ankle sufficiently healed.

A decision I have now come to regret. To the girl’s fortune, I am a male of my word.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Today marked the end to nearly a sennight of calculated avoidance. Shortly before sunrise, our guest found herself in the kitchen when she ought to have been in the sanctuary of her bedchamber. It appears that she is having her monthly bleeding - and no inkling whatsoever about the effect it has on me. Never would I degrade myself by consuming menstrual blood, naturally; the scent of it, however, is the nearest thing to fresh human blood I have smelled in two decades. The intensity of the sensorial confrontation left me in astonishment.

One brief meeting with the girl was enough to awaken something primal in me; with apprehension I felt the involuntary strain of my cuspids, thankfully interrupted in time. Had Chiselle not decided to confine the girl upstairs immediately, I can only guess how long I would have been able to control myself.

In my current position, the price of human blood is wildly disproportionate to the satisfaction I would derive from it. Seventy-four days remain until my freedom; already I imagine the bittersweet taste of it. Should my fangs pierce human skin before then, Father would make sure I could only ever behold moonlight through a dust-ridden windowpane - until hunger and time would eventually undo me.
