Chapter 5 - The Price of Money

"The best thing would be to leave now," Blaise mentioned to Kylia.

?It was almost nightfall. As Blaise walked home, Blaise thought about going to buy food for his training.

?While Blaise was walking, he bumped into a man of average size.

?The man, wearing a black hood, had collided with Blaise. He quickly apologized and continued on his way.

?Without time to speak, Blaise kept walking, when a voice in his mind told him, "Go after that guy, he just grabbed your money."

?It was Kylia's voice, which resonated in Blaise's head.

?With a swift movement, Blaise, trusting Kylia's intuition, turned around. The man had completely disappeared into the city dust.

?Frowning, Blaise began to use one of the abilities granted to him by his bond.

?The sword from his neckline had moved to his forehead.

?This gave Blaise the ability to sense the evil around him. Although it sounds powerful, this ability severely wore down his body and only worked within a 10-meter radius of Blaise's body.

?Blaise named it: investigative space, as it reminded him of crime scenes and police investigation zones from television series.

?With Kylia's power, who was still recovering, Blaise was able to follow the path where the hooded man had disappeared.

?Starting to follow Kylia's orders, Blaise closed his eyes and let himself be guided by his unexpected companion on his left hand.

?The sword on his forehead moved to his legs before he leaped onto the roofs of the town houses.

?"Controlling 3 swords is a lot of strain on my body, but that money is what I've saved up working, I can't let them steal it from me," Blaise thought, with a clear expression of frustration on his face.

?Reaching the roof of one of the houses, maintaining the 3 swords, Blaise closed his eyes and started running exactly as Kylia mentioned in his mind.

?Diminishing his strength, Blaise learned to increase his speed. The swords on his legs were not just a weapon; they were artifacts capable of many possibilities.

?As Blaise followed the hooded man, he thought about how he would hit him and take everything from him, with a satisfied look on his face, Blaise let his fangs show.

?After a pursuit guided by Kylia's voice, Blaise cornered the thief of his money. By this point, it was already night in the city.

?Through the fog and darkness, Blaise managed to spot the thief. In an instant, he had vanished from Blaise's sight.

?Looking up and to the sides, Blaise couldn't see anything, a voice resonated in his head: "Down."

?Without time to react, Blaise received a blow that grazed his jaw. Before he could counterattack, his enemy was in front of him.

?"You're very slow, kid. I don't know how you caught up to me, but your path ends when you managed to see me," the man mentioned, with a voice from beyond the grave that made Blaise's bones tremble.

?Blaise's body went into guard, ready to fight, Blaise provoked the man of unknown name with his hand.

?Showing no signs of weariness, Blaise did not feel confident about winning this fight when he heard Kylia's voice resonate in his head.

?"He is definitely stronger than you. But don't be afraid, no one weaker than me will be able to defeat you as long as you do what I say."

  ?"I will trust you, Kylia."

?Focusing his eyes on the man, Blaise increased his vision, making him capable of seeing the man's movements.

?The man ran directly at Blaise, when he heard to himself, "Stab, neck."

?Blaise retreated from the man, when 2 meters away he managed to see that the man possessed a hidden bladed weapon. "This is what Kylia meant, good, I'll leave it to you."

?Blaise powered up his legs, giving a strong tackle towards the man. "Stab, nape."

?Before reaching the man, Blaise slid under his legs, getting to his back. Blaise, with an expression of victory, tried to grab the man.

  ?"He's going to jump."

?Upon hearing that, Blaise immediately jumped, preventing his enemy from escaping, and landed a blow with increased power thanks to the sword on his arm.

?The man fell to the ground, impacting with a loud thud.

?Looking at Blaise, the hooded man charged towards Blaise. His hands began to release dark fog.

  ?"Right."

?Blaise immediately reacted and turned to the right, looking the hooded man in the eyes.

?Delivering a knee to the stomach, he saw the man spit out saliva.

?With a quick movement, Blaise grabbed the knife from the man who was now on the ground.

?Confident, Blaise looked at the man on the ground. In an instant, this man was turning into mist.

?"He's going to escape, kill him quickly," Kylia's voice resonated in Blaise's head.

?With a strong and decisive movement, Blaise plunged the knife into the chest of the almost vanishing man.

?Crimson liquid bathed Blaise's hand and the knife, before he could be bothered, the man's blood had turned into a bright red vapor.

?"One less," Blaise heard in his head, when he realized that the man's body had disappeared, reduced to a dark hood and a doll.

?Exhausted by his confrontation, which had only lasted about 30 seconds, Blaise had noticed the lack of strength in his body.

?Seeing the doll on the ground, he picked it up with his right hand.

?Without dropping his guard, Blaise examined the doll. Although it was in a deteriorated state, it reminded him a lot of voodoo dolls from his past life.

?Blaise left the doll on the floor and turned his gaze towards the reason for the confrontation.

?Looking at the money on the ground, Blaise picked up the money from the man who had turned into vapor in an instant.

?When he decided to continue on his way, Kylia's voice resonated in his mind. "Look discreetly to the right."

?Blaise, following the advice of the man he already considered trustworthy, looked to the right, somewhat disconcerted.

?For an instant, Blaise couldn't breathe, shocked by the appearance of 1 man on the dusty red roof of the house to his right.

?"Escape, quickly," resonated in Blaise's mind, who didn't know how to react.

?Blaise quickly turned his head away. His legs were failing him. With a shock of adrenaline, Blaise was able to use a bond one last time.

?With a fast but imprecise movement, he managed to escape from that overwhelming scene.

?"Kylia wouldn't tell me to escape if I couldn't defeat the adversary," Blaise thought, as he tried to get as far away as possible from that man.

?After a few kilometers traveled, Blaise stopped at an inn. Blaise decided to pay 2 nights for the price of 1 "sword" and 30 "shields."

?Already in the room, Blaise felt a little down, as he only earned 3 "swords" in 1 day of work.

?Blaise quickly turned his head from side to side to clear his mind.

?Recalling that situation, the man standing on the roof of the house had a terrifying appearance, with a large scar that dominated his look; it crossed from the right corner of his lip to his right eyebrow.

  ?Kylia described the man better.

?"Qant, that's his name. He is a powerful bastard in that church. A 4th-level binder, a void walker."

?Kylia continued describing the dark-skinned man and making fun of his lack of hair.

?In an instant, Kylia's voice began to become lower in tone.

?Blaise sat on the perfectly made bed when he felt a breeze of wind on the back of his neck.

?Every muscle in Blaise's body began to ache; it was as if every muscle fiber in his body was being destroyed.

?Blaise's muscles began to redden. Blaise's nose started to bleed. Blaise remained seated and conscious.

?When he heard Kylia's voice in the distance, "Kid, hey, wake up."

?Unable to control his body any longer, Blaise fell to the floor unconscious.
