Chapter 53:The Battle Of Megas
If Sia had thought a week ago, at the beginning of the battle, that she'd already seen true destruction, than by now she'd been proven wrong. By now the battlefield couldn't even be called that anymore. She could only barely still recognise where they stood, everything left around them a cratered and completely destroyed wasteland. While at the beginning one could'e at least seen the rough layout of the territory below the destruction, nothing of that was left now.
Even the sky had suffered. Thick scars crisscrossed the clouds, some glowing faintly, others flickering. Every so often, a pulse rolled through, Zuko’s [Stormforge Sovereignity] tugging the atmosphere like it was clay in his claws. From time to time a crystalline shimmer rippled outward from Velari’s [Radiant Aegis], trying to restore order to a battlefield that had long since spiraled past that. The very concept of order that formed the foundation of her Domain had weakened due to the sheer scale of destruction, and Velari's Domain, already weaker than the one the Storm menace wieled, weakened as well while Zuko's Domain seemingly stood unaffected.
Sia’s legs trembled as she stood at the edge of the newest craterof a devasting [Plasma Fist], shadow-body rippling in faint, unstable waves. She had long since stopped pretending she wasn’t exhausted. The only comfort was that everyone else looked just as ruined… except, of course, the one Pokemon she wanted to see kneel over in exhaustion.
The Storm Menace stood in the center of the devastation like a pillar hammered into the earth. His fur hung in scorched clumps, his breaths came heavier than they should, and the faint tremor in his left arm betrayed strain… but that was all. For someone who had been fighting in shifting waves of pressure and violence for a full week, he looked terrifyingly stable. His type energy pulsed with that slow, inevitable rhythm Sia had come to hate. A rhythm that promised he had more. Always more.
Zuko was slowly but surely overpowering them. He was winning, even if it was inch by inch. And if things continued like that, it was only a question of time until one of them made a mistake in their exhaustion that would prove fatal.
Sia inhaled sharply as Velari stumbled back, shaking as she caught the edge of her [Diamond Storm] and forced its shards into a defensive lattice. Her [Radiant Aegis] flickered and what should have been perfectly ordered latticework now rippled unevenly, as if her Domain itself was tired. And it probably was. Holding off Zuko physically while also fending off the storm hois Domain controlled was a nightmare even at full strength.
"Stay behind me!" Shae shouted somewhere overhead, her Sky Form a green-white blur carving tight arcs through the air as she fired another cluster of [Air Slashes] to divert Miu’s path.
Miu however dove through the blades of slicing wind with infuriating ease, her pink tail flicking as she pirouetted midair. Then she actually laughed at the futile effort before throwing a spinning [Hyper Beam] that Shae barely twisted away from. The blast hit the ground behind her with a detonation that swallowed the dirt, then spat it back out as dust clouds and molten sparks.
Sia grit her teeth until they rattled. Shae had been stuck dealing with Miu the entire damn week. And while Shae was strong, incredibly strong when properly motivated, it didn’t change that Miu was just as strong and had access to a wide range of extremely strong and diverse, but also very much weird moves that made fighting her an absolute nightmare.
And without Shae freed up to help Velari and Vian the entire fight just dragged on and on. Sia and Nayru had obviously tried to deal with Miu as well, but while they could hold on for quite some time at some point they would simply get overpowered by the more experienced and stronger Mythical, even if they were working together.
Another crack echoed, this one deep enough to vibrate through Sia’s bones. She snapped her gaze back to the center where the Storm Menace battled just in time to see Zuko practically vanish with a [Quick Attack].
"Velari, watch out!" Sia cried out, but the Diancie already reacted. Zuko reappeared behind her, arm raised in a [Drain Punch]. Velari twisted, throwing up a [Reflect]. The blow hit with a thunderclap, the shield shattering in an explosion of type energy. But it was enough vor her to barely evade the blow.
Zuko didn’t give her a chance to recover. His follow-up came instantly, a [Low Sweep] that sent tremors through the ground and forced her to reorient her entire Domain to avoid being ripped apart by the sheer kinetic force.
Sia felt her chest tighten once more. By now they could only barely keep up with the Storm Menace Unless something changed they would soon loose.
Nayru splashed up beside Sia, water rippling off her like sweat. Her breathing came fast, desperate, and she grimaced at the scene unfolding. "Sia," she panted. "We’re not strong enough to continue this! We two lack the strength to involve ourselves in a clash between Legendares." Her voice cracked with the frustration of someone who wanted to do everything and could do almost nothing.
"I know." Sia hated admitting it. "But if we pull back completely..." Zuko slammed Velari into the ground hard enough to shake the ridge under their feet. "Velari will die and then we're all doomed." Nayru didn’t argue. She didn’t have to.
A beam of molten energy cut across the air, Vian’s [Searing Shot]. It struck Zuko clean in the side, hitting so hard the impact buckled the air. Zuko flinched slightly, his [Quick Guard] coming up too late, but didn't otherwise react. The flames licked across his fur and guttered out, nothing more than a momentary hindrance.
Vian was mainly doing his very best to use his own nascent Domain to support and strengthen Velari's [Radiant Aegis]. The Victini glowed like a miniature sun as he pumped more of his own power into the Domain, forcing the collapsing crystalline order back into stability.
"Hold your ground, Velari. I have your back," his voice rang out, at which Velari nodded in acknowledgement. But Zuko didn’t let that stand.
The Storm Menace flicked his wrist and a [Thunder] shot from the sky, but it broke apart under one of Velari's [Light Screens] before reaching Vian. Velari summoned a [Moonblast] and fired it upward, but Zuko cut the attack in half with a single [Slash], scattering it into straying fairy type energy that was quickly resubdued into Velari's Domain.
"He’s adapting faster than we can compensate!" Velari shouted through gritted teeth.
Zuko’s grin flashed sharp and humorless, nut without a doubt confident. "You had a week," he said, his voice dripping with cold amusement. “You should’ve run and abandoned the Umbral Abyss when you still had the chance. Now I won't let you do so anymore."
Shae streaked across the sky, slamming into Miu with a [Seed Flare] that detonated in a burst of life energy, enough to finally stagger the Mew and force her into retreat for a breath. "Sia!" Shae called, eyes frantic as she darted away from a countering [Blizzard]. "Help Velari! I’ll keep this one off you!"
Sia didn’t hesitate. She banished into a [Phantom Force], appearing in front of Zuko ready to block his next attack with a [Protect] before vanishing again, but Zuko was already mobing, having anticipated her move.
He shifted his stance, evaded an incoming [Earth Power] from Velari with a [Bounce], and landed back on the ground so forcefully the earth ruptured, combined with a [Discharge]. A shockwave blasted outward, knocking Sia and Nayru off their feet, sending both tumbling across the broken terrain.
Sia crashed hard, felt shards of stone punch through her semi-solid form, felt her vision flicker. Her breath rasped in her throat as she pulled herself up from the fractured stone again. Dust swirled through the air in trembling clouds of static, the lingering aftershocks of Zuko’s [Discharge] still making her bones buzz. Every pulse of electricity in the air dragged a shiver along her ghostly form, half-material, half-shadow.
Quickly she scanned the surroundings for Zuko only to spot him evading a [V-Create] from Vian and nullifying a [Dazzlin Gleam] from Velari with a [Discharge] before squarely hitting Velari with a [Mega Punch]. Not a very strong or effective move all things considered, but still enough to see Velari stagger backward while he distanced himself again with a [Quick Attack] to evade a retaliatory [Diamond Storm].
Sia saw Velari glance around the battlefield, the wight in her gaze showing that she considered doing... something. Sia had no idea what. Velari looked at all of them with the quiet devastation of someone knowing they did everything in their power but it still wasn't enough. Then her gaze dropped.
Sia followed Velari's gaze and saw the Lesser Legendarie's hand brushing against something at her chest. Something tucked deep within the folds of her dress. She took out a stone. A round, brilliantly shining and perfect diamond refracting pink hues. Inside it a pink spiral of type energy could be seen, swirling faster and faster the longer Velari held the stone in her hand. A stone that had a single deep and unnatural crack running across it.
Suddenly Vian appeared next to Velari, though still keeping a respectful distance to the Lesser Legendary. "Velari. I know the situation doesn't look good but I implore you not to do that. If you decide to mega evolve it will put us on the clock. We cannot risk to do such a think in a fight that we are only to stall out."
Velari didn’t look at Vian, instead looking down into her own trembling fingers. "I had hoped…" She swallowed, and the sound made Sia’s skin prickle. There was fear in it, buried deeply. "I had hoped I would never need this again."
Her thumb ran across the Mega Stone’s surface, the light within swirling more and more the more type energy Velari channeled into it. "I'm sorry Vian. I really am. But how much longer will it be until one of you perishes? When will the second one die? If I don't do this now I fear it will be too late."

Vian sighed and stepped a little closer. "It is a considerable risk to even use that stone at all, though it is not my place to decide for you. But are you sure you want to do that? This mega stone is damaged, maybe even corrupted. The damage the stone took from when your previous leader clashed with Zuko the first time around is still there. You could die trying to use it to mega evolve and you know it.
Velari’s eyes closed. Her shoulders trembled. "Perhaps. But I see no other choice. As a ruler I have to keep my subjects safe. As a vassal of Lord Noctem I have to protect his Domain. This is my burden, my duty, that I have to fullfill. No matter the consequences. So please, Vian, step aside. And after we're done here maybe overthink your decision to never become a Lesser Legendary again."
With these words Velari lifted the mega stone, finally giving it the last needed push. Light folded in, crushing inward, bending space with jewel-toned brilliance. The air snapped, hard enough that Sia’s ears rang. Cracks split across the battlefield as the pressure inverted. Debris didn’t fly outward, it got pulled toward Velari first, disintegrating as the forces crushed them into glittering dust.
Then the outward shockwave hit. A prismatic blast tore through the clearing, shredding trees into showers of spark-like fragments. The ground buckled into crystal veins, refracting sunlight until the entire crater flashed with blinding white. Sia threw up both arms and solidified instinctively, bracing her ghost form against the force. Shae whipped away on the wind like a leaf. Nayru slammed backward into a bank of shattered earth. Even Vian staggered.
Zuko darted out of range just in time, if barely. His fur stood on end, eyes wide, electricity sparking across his claws. And Velari stood at the center of it all. Now changed, having taken on the form of a Mega Diancie. Her body gleamed with hyper-polished crystal, every facet sharpened to precise symmetry. Her crown had reshaped into more elegant, more deadly geometry. Her dress, her crystal skirt, had grown lighter, thinner, shifting like floating shards rather than a solid mass. She become pure weaponized brilliance.
As she opened her eyes, they glowed bluish-white, just like her entire body, the color refracting the starlight. She stood perfectly tall, perfectly still, perfectly herself. Her Domain surged to new hights, ruthlessly shredding Zuko's [Stormforge Sovereignty] now that her entire power surpassed his with her temporarily breaching the upper echelons of strength that a Lesser Legendary could showcase.
But already, Sia could see Velari paying the price of mega evolution, pain in her eyes as her body fought to even just keep itself together and functioning. Zuko saw all of that too. And he looked delighted.
He slowed mid-advance, claws digging a precise crescent into the scorched earth. The grin that spread across his muzzle wasn’t manic, it was hungry. Focused. Like this was the moment he had been praying for, and Velari had finally delivered. Sia’s heart hammered. Beside her, Nayru didn’t dare breathe.
Zuko murmured, almost fondly, "So you finally remembered that you’re a Legendary. That we are above fighting in our natural forms. That we hold the power to truly shape everything when we act in full power."
The casualness of it cracked something cold down Sia’s spine. There was no awe, no fear. Only satisfaction, as though Velari had finally stopped wasting his time. Then the Storm Menace reached behind himself.
Sia saw Vian worriedly stiffen before she even saw the gleam. A mega stone, perfectly cut and untouched by cracks or fractures, slipped into Zuko’s claws with the ease of someone retrieving a forgotten accessory. Its surface pulsed once, not overly pure or powerful, but not to underestimate either. The Mythicals around Sia froze in perfect synchronicity. Even Miu, perched in the air slightly behind Zuko, lowered her stance, eyes narrowing with a mix of worry and unreadable calculation.
Sia swallowed hard. This was bad. Mega evolution clashing with mega evolution was the sort of thing she’d only ever heard of in stories. Something powerful Legendaries and Mythicals did outside of the Umbral Abyss when they got in all-out fights with each other. It was not something supposed to happen in the Umbral Abyss where mega stones were already incredibly scarce!
Zuko held his own mega stone up to his chest. "Now that you've decided to truly go all out it would be disrespectful not to answer in kind," And with these words he mega evolved.
His mega evolution was different than Velari's. There was no explosion or shockwave. Instead the air simply dropped, as though someone erased part of gravity, then stitched it back together too tight. The light around Zuko condensed into something dense, almost heavy, forcing Sia’s knees to buckle despite Shae bracing her from the side.
Zuko’s transformation settled with eerie precision, not a single mote of energy wasted. And when the glow cleared, he stood in a form sharper, leaner, now wearing a black armor with blue hues. He rolled one shoulder, testing the form with the ease of slipping into a familiar coat. If he felt pain from the mega evolution he was great at not showing it. Then he exhaled, that confident half-smile curling again.
"You got more boost out of your mega evolution than I got out of mine. Even damaged, the quality of your mega stone is simply higher. We're now more or less equals in terms of pure strength," he said, as though discussing weather. "But you still lost. Tell me, how long can you keep this boost up? Days? A week? Maybe even two weeks? It doesn't matter. Unlike you I have put myself through mega evolution time and time again. My willpower will not falter earlier than yours. And than I will end all of you."
Sia saw Velari’s expression tighten in acknowledgment. Velari wasn’t stupid. She knew exactly how long she could forcibly hold a Mega Evolution with a cracked stone. Sia felt her throat tighten painfully. Even with Mega Evolution, even with Velari’s slight power edge… they didn’t have time. Winning wasn’t just about strength. It was about endurance and pure sustainability. Something that Velari didn't have enough of. And everyone knew it.
Shae shifted forward, stepping between the battlefield and the Mythicals like a protective wall. "Stay behind me. Do not move, do not intervene. You will die if you try," she said with a cold undisputable certainty.
Both she and Nayru stood behind Shae, eyes wide, seeing the sheer power Zuko displayed. Only once in her life had Sia felt so small and weak. That had been when her mentor Noah had given her a demonstration of what true power meant. She'd been much younger and weaker back then, but she could instinctively tell that the power Zuko and Velari held had been nothing compared to him. But she felt just as useless as back then.
The battleground rippled again as Velari steadied herself. Her Domain pulsed outward, a steady rhythm of defiance. Zuko welcomed it, stepping into the radiance like someone savoring warmth. "Good," he murmured, voice thick with anticipation. "Show me how long you can last!"
Both Sia and Nayru knew very well that a single stray blow of the coming fight would probably be enough to kill them before they even registered the pain. Even Miu had stepped back from the fight, seemingly content with just observing the coming clash while Shae had her hands full protecting the two of them. Not that she believed Shae would dare interfere with the fight anyways. The only one who might still be able to intervene was Vian, at the absolute peak of strength that a Mythical could reach. And Vian... had not moved either.
The Victini was standin by idly as well, watching the clash that was about to happen while seemingly preparing some move from the sidelines. Even he didn't dare to put himself directly between these two fighting Legendaries anymore, only willing to support from a distance. And even he needed time to prepare attacks that could actually do some damage.
"Sia," Shae said quietly. Why did she sound so defeated? "You and Nayru need to leave. Now."
Sia blinked, stunned. "Leave? But you-!"
"We," Shae corrected, including herself, "would be liabilities. You two especially. Keeping yoou protected is a bigger risk than sending you away is at this point."
It wasn’t cruel. It was fact. And hearing it aloud burned more than Sia expected. She opened her mouth to protest, to insist she could still help, that she could guard Nayru, or support Shae, or do something at least as another shockwave slammed the ground. Crystalline shards whiplashed across the air like meteor fragments. Zuko’s electricity carved through Velari’s curtain of refracted light, and Velari answered with a burst that cracked the earth into a spiderweb of molten fissures.
Sia’s knees buckled instantly. Nayru cried out behind her. Even Shae staggered. Liabilities Shae had said? Oh yes. They were beyond liabilities, even if that truth hurt.
Shae’s voice dropped to a low, urgent growl. "Get to Newleaf Village. Check the Umbral Abyss. Make sure everyone's alive and informed of what's happening. Keep an eye on Lord Noctem and inform him of what's happening the moment he wakes up. It should be close by now. We'll try to hold on until he does."
Sia’s mouth tasted like iron. She didn’t want to leave. She didn’t want to abandon Velari to Zuko, or Shae to whatever came next. But she saw the truth in Shae’s expression, this wasn’t about running. This was about survival.
Nayru tugged weakly at her pendants. "Sia… I can’t even remain standing when they clash. We’ll die if we stay." And that settled it for her.
Sia nodded once, throat tight. "You're both right. Let's go."
Shae exhaled, relieved but tense. "Good. I’ll stay. Someone has to keep an eye on Miu while Vian and Velari are occupied. Stay safe."
Sia glanced toward the Mew and felt a chill creep up her spine. Miu still hadn’t rejoined Zuko, nor had she intervened in Velari’s favor. She simply stood at the edge of the ruined clearing, eyes narrowed, tail flicking from time to time. She'd placed her bets, but seemingly she was unwilling to go as far as to risk her very life to help Zuko.
Shae’s voice sharpened. "Her sitting still doesn’t make her harmless. It just mean she's plotting something."
Sia didn’t argue. She knew Miu well enough to know Shae wasn’t exaggerating. If Miu decided to try something while everyone was occupied, there was almost nothing any of them could do.
At that moment Vian finished whatever he had prepared. His arms lifted, palms angled toward Velari, tiny sparks of orange-gold drifting from his fingertips. Not an attack, but subtle threads of stabilizing energy. Reinforcement, strengthening Velari's hold on the fractured mega stone’s output without pushing her into collapse. It seemed like Vian had once more taken multiple moves out of his incredibly vast movepool and combined them to impressive effect. She could easily notice [Protect], [Skill Swap], [V-Create], [Safeguard], [Helping Hand], [Light Screen] and many others, but whatever he was doing it was way too complex for her to truly understand.
Sia felt awe press into her bones. He was walking a razor’s edge, helping Velari without touching Zuko’s attention. Any direct intervention would turn the fight suicidal. But this… this was the work of someone who understood the difference between influence and interference on a legendary scale.
Velari, radiant in her prismatic mega state, flickered under the added power, her Domain sharpening like polished diamond. Zuko noticed, of course he noticed, but merely smiled, delighted at the escalation. He dove back in with a laugh that shook Sia’s bones. The heavens themselves seemed to ring as mega evolution met mega evolution.
"Sia!" Shae snapped. "This fight is about to get even more destructive! Leave now!"
She jolted, grabbed Nayru’s paw, and together they ran, stumbling back across the cracked battlefield rim, past scorched roots and shattered stone ridges, trying to get as far away as possible. Every few steps, Sia looked back.
Velari and Zuko were spears of radiance and electricity carving through the world. Velari’s radiance cut clean lines through the lingering dust, refracting into violent rainbows as she moved. Zuko’s electricity twisted space, bending the battlefield with each step. And between them? Reality tore and stitched itself in rapid, sickening pulses.
Shae remained at the fringe, shadow cast long and still, wings half-spread. Every sense she had was locked onto Miu, who stayed seated on a chunk of shattered stone like a queen observing a duel she had paid for but held no stakes in. Vian stood behind Velari’s radius, a gilded silhouette guiding the fragile balance of power.
And Sia… Sia retreated with Nayru at her side, knowing that stepping even one foot closer would mean instant death.The last thing she saw before the trees swallowed her view was Velari and Zuko colliding again, two forces shaped for war, tearing the world apart in their struggle to outlast the other. They ran faster.
