Chapter 34

Kennon did pause his train of thought when the tree he hit suddenly crumpled to the ground.

It was interesting. He always thought there was something odd with how arc worked. He finally understood. It was just like fire bolt and fire ball.

Fire bolt could be made with almost no mana. But it could only be empowered up to about fifty. He thought manipulation skills, and mental stats would increase that. But it didn’t. Fire ball on the other hand started at fifty and could go higher than he could power.

Lighting bolt and arc were the same. The spell array didn’t just hold more mana, but built a framework to allow it to hold far more than seemed reasonable.

As for the spark imprint. He asked the system to pull up fire bolt and immediately saw several places spark fit in.

It was as he suspected. Just as Tutor said. Spells built on each other. He figured that spark must contain parts that were also found in almost every spell.

It also explained making new spells. If he perfected both heat and cool then thermostat would come with it. It was elegant. And he understood why people specialized now. Imprinting spark sped up his casting of lighting bolt immensely. And would no doubt let him imprint lighting bolt quickly.

Then when it came for lighting storm, or any other lightning spells they could be perfected even faster.

Of course, no matter how much Kennon loved explosions. The best part about magic was its versatility. He would never complain about a good fire ball. But he had used earth mold far more. And animate earth was quickly becoming a favorite. It wasn’t even a real transmutation spell but it still gave him endless salt.

Of course, fire ball would always be his favorite.

In order to cast that in under a minute he could focus on memorizing it. Or he could memorize its parts. Memorize fire bolt. And perfect it. Then fire ball would be easy. After that he would give the old spell rock toss some love.

And splash. He hadn’t forgotten about splash. If the fire mana kept rising it would possibly be the best of them all. He wondered what would happen if he took the water portions of splash and put them in fire ball?

Of course. The first step to the perfect fire bolt was the perfect torch. He pulled it up, and with the system, and started to weave beside the diagram. A full quarter of it was almost instantly filled from spark. It would take time. Getting all of his elements perfected. And he couldn’t wait.

  I told you so.

  Uggh, Tutor heard all that.

Bev felt something inside her. At the exact same time Kennon was insanely excited. She felt, a spell? Spark? Almost on instinct she cast it without the system.

Well. that explained why Kennon was so excited. She would need to have a chat with him on what exactly happened.

She was making progress on her armor. But it was going slowly. She needed to do such delicate work. The anvil barely cut it. More often than not she was using telekinesis to hold things in place. And using her grip as an anvil.

She never quite realized before just how complicated hands were. But making all the plates and joints to cover her fingers was driving her insane.

She told herself she had to work on the harder parts at least a little every day before she let herself bang on the massive steel chest plate.

Not that it was easy either. She wanted this to be a masterwork. That meant precision. Attention to detail. But it was coming along nicely. Of course metal work wasn’t all there was to it. She hadto make the gambeson. Line several parts of the plate with leather.

And naturally she had to enchant it.

As days turned into weeks, and she started to near the finish point the change in the realm became impossible to deny. It was getting hotter. Mundane plants were starting to gather mana. It was getting scary. She felt like the forest could burst into flames at any moment. She even took a break to add a cooling enchant to their cabin.

The armor was going to be sweaty. She should add a cooling enchant to it too.

As time passed Kennon imprinted the perfect copy of torch, rock toss, gust, and splash. The last one granted him a spell water jet that Bev was beginning to think would be very useful.

  Finally, the armor was done.

They had been in the realm for almost two months.

She had Kennon help her don the armor. It was several layers of golden tiger leather, and metal. All of it enchanted. And all of it very heavy.

She tested it out. Feeling the way it moved.

Once it was on her it wasn’t too bad. She was very happy that she went for the cooling enchant. She fired off an appraise.

Mana treated steel full plate armor set(master work) - armor - T1

A full set of interconnected armor pieces and accompanying under armor. Attached are several spatial storage sheaths designed to hold one item each. A portion of all force above a set threshold will be channeled into the ground. Possibly increasing the users footing.

Constant exposure to fire mana when forging as well as the golden tiger leather has leant to greatly increased fire resistance.

This particular armor was made by an initiate.

  Enchants

Cooling 1, durability 2, force redirection 2, self repair 1, storage, mana storage 2

She did it. A masterwork armor. And apparently she was no longer a novice smith in the eyes of the system. She had never heard of someone without a class in a crafting profession get to initiate.

  Tears formed in her eyes.

They were ready. They would be fifteen in just a few days. She had hoped they would reach level ten first. But that wasn’t to be.

They would soon be packing up and leaving this little home of theirs. And given the buildup of mana it wouldn’t be too soon.
