Chapter 124.5: Final Review

This is the first-ever real story I’ve ever written for people to actually read, and now I am finished… Feels a little weird, but, at the same time, very satisfying. To everyone who stuck it out to the end, thank you for reading my work; I am eternally grateful!

Q: Why end the story at Boruto’s movie?

A: The first reason is that Naruto’s son’s story is not complete; the manga canon always takes precedence. The second is that the bulk of his story takes place in or around the Land of Fire; I’d be performing mental gymnastics to justify Jin and friends going there so much.

Q: Why set your story in the Naruto world?

A: Because it’s my favorite anime and manga; I go back and rewatch episodes and arcs almost on a regular basis, which makes me very familiar with the story and makes it easier to write about.

Q: Why make it an isekai?

A: Like many others, I enjoy some isekai stories, but I tend to find some of the tropes irksome just like everyone else… First of all, many isekai MCs have a tendency to be overpowered at the very start of the story. Most MC’s have no real personality to speak of and a very generic character design. Most of the protagonists are super heroic and nice, like, to an UNREALISTIC degree. The story is my way of venting my frustrations with the isekai genre.

Q: Why include elements from the movies, games, anime, etc.?

A: I wanted the world to feel bigger and more lived in. And I also need a way for my characters to realistically keep up with both the main cast as well as the antagonists; if Jin hadn’t gone rogue and sought out more power, he would’ve legit died during Orochimaru’s attack on the Leaf.

  Stolen story; please report.

Q: How do you write your characters?

A: I based them off of real people I know; Jin originally started out as my own personal self-insert, but I changed some things to make him stand out as his own person; Ayanami was originally written to be like a more traditional isekai protagonist, but over the course of the story I made her to be a spunky, kind, and athletic girl that many would be friends with; I based Rito off a combination of some smart kids I went to school with and the class clown.

Q: Why not have Jin, Ayanami, and Rito be part of the same squad?

A: Mainly because I’m a bit of a sucker for the found-family trope. Another reason is that I don’t agree much with the “just because we see each other every day (school/work), doesn’t make us friends” trope that most anime do.
