Chapter 30

  Chapter 30

Moments later, the spells landed in the town. Theo saw several people up on the walls fall over, either stunned or asleep. In retaliation, spells and arrows were launched at the massive group of people. In response, many people put up shields while mages created barriers, and they still kept rushing forward. As they moved, Theo could hear the overwhelming noise of over 1,000 people running toward the city. He felt claustrophobic, being this jammed together with so many people. As they moved forward, spells and arrows were all over the place, randomly hitting people. One of his teammates — no idea who, since the guy had his helmet on — got hit by a spell. Theo used target healing, helping him up quickly. The guy gave him a thumbs-up because talking at this point was pointless. As they got closer and closer to the walls, the spells and arrows ramped up, and the gates were closed. Theo, thinking about how they were going to get through, saw a flash of light, then heard a loud boom. The gates shattered into millions of pieces.

“What in the hell was that? How the hell does someone have that much firepower?” Theo thought.

As they entered the town, people began separating from the big mob and heading off in many different directions. Theo’s group went left.

“We're going to sweep the outskirts, then work our way into the town,” Blake yelled.

Theo nodded along with the rest of them. As they got about half a block away from the gate, they ran into a group of people using Identify.

Human level 12, human level 20, human level 3, human level 14, human level 18.

The group of four ran towards them, using their shields to block the oncoming spell that had a green hue. The spell was directed towards Blake. Blake dodged it handily, but the spell hit the ground, and vines started to grow out of the ground. The mage launched more spells, and in front of the warriors, vines popped up, creating a makeshift barrier between the two groups. Theo hung back and had his short sword ready in his right hand.

“I’m just a healer; they can handle it. There is no need for me to reveal my capability,” Theo repeated in his head.

The other people in the group, besides the mage, had swords; none of them were wearing armor. Joe pulled out something from thin air, which must have been in a storage ring or something, and tossed it at the mage. Theo was blinded, and his ears were ringing. He uses Healing Touch on himself to relieve the ringing in his ears and the bright spots in his eyes.

“Joe, you’re a fucking asshole! Warn me when you’re gonna toss a damn flashbang!” Theo yelled.

While laughing, Joe yelled, “If I did that, they would know, and you’re a healer. You seem fine.”

As Joe said that, the rest of them, including Joe, ran around the makeshift barricade and apprehended the group, tying them up as they started walking back to the gate.

“I’m guessing you have some type of signal or hand sign stating that you’re going to drop a flash bang because the rest of you guys seem fine,” Theo said.

“Got it in one,” Blake said.

As they were halfway back to the gate, another group approached them. A woman who seemed to be the leader said,

“We’ll take them from here; you guys continue clearing the city,” she said.

They released their prisoners to the other group, and Theo and his team returned the way they had come to continue the search. They cleared buildings this go-round. As they walked past, they found a few people hidden in houses. Theo had an idea; he used Healer Sight and saw outlines of his group, and that was that.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

“Well, that was a bust,” Theo thought, trying Warden Sight as well. He saw the yin and yang of his group, and that was it.

“I guess it’s only insight that the skill works,” Theo thought.

At this point, they had four individuals. They went back to the entrance of the city and gave their prisoners to a group that was creating a makeshift holding pen for the brainwash victims. They went back to clear more houses. As they were clearing another home, they heard fighting and saw smoke off in the distance. Theo’s group rushed toward the commotion in the next street over. Theo saw multiple wounded people on the ground and two groups with numerous mages and frontline fighters on either side going at it. Theo used Warden Sight to see which side was which. The one closest to him did not have any tar-like substance on their union yang, but the other group facing him did. Theo relayed that information to his group.

"You must have an uncommon or higher-rarity healing class to identify what’s wrong with them,” Joe said.

  Theo did not reply.

“What’s the play here, boss?” Gordon said.

“Theo, help the wounded. The rest of us will guard Theo while he does his job. If we step into the fight, we might get innocent people killed,” Blake said.

The group went to the nearest down person. Theo used Warden Site to see if the person needed to be bound or not, and the man did not have the taint in his soul. Theo then used Healer's Intuition to see what was wrong with the guy. He had a couple of broken ribs. He had a pretty good gouge on his left side. Theo used Clean on him, then placed his hand on the guy's wound and began channeling Healing Touch into it. Theo saw that the wound started to heal. After he closed the wound, Theo kept his hand on the guy's skin, then channeled Healing Touch; the healing magic flowed through his hand, through the guy's body, and to his ribs. Theo could see and guide the magic by using Healer’s Intuition. Theo did one more courtesy scan through the guy's body and soul—no more injuries—and went off to the next patient. The next one was a woman who had her arm cleaved off. She already had a tourniquet around the stump, a healing potion in her hand, and her severed arm was lying on her lap. Theo first used the Warden Site and saw she had no trace of the tar-like substance in her soul, then he used the Healer’s Intuition and saw all that was wrong with her was blood loss and the missing arm.

“I have not done this before, but would you allow me to try reattaching your arm?” Theo yelled over the battle that was raging half a block away.

She gritted her teeth in pain and gave a nod. Theo grabbed the arm. First, Theo used Clean on the severed arm and the stump, and then Theo channeled Healing Touch through her severed arm. At the same time, he removed the tourniquet and, with his other hand, applied Healing Touch to the stump, then put the arm back on the stump. It was really mana-intensive. Theo was focused on reconnecting the skin, bones, arteries, and nerves. While he was focusing, he heard a loud boom and felt a wave of heat pass over him, followed by an aftershock from a big explosion.

Seconds later, a man was brought to him with severe burns across his body, and his metal armor was infused into his body. A woman was screaming at him to heal him. Theo used his Healer's Intuition and saw that his current patient would be fine, but he wasn’t completely done reattaching the nerve endings.

“Stay here, your nervous system in your arm is not 100% attached, but you’ll be fine for the moment,” Theo yelled over the roar of the battle.

The woman nodded. Theo turned his attention towards the man.”

Theo used the spell Clean on the man, then used Healer's Intuition on him. More than half of his body was a charred mass. Theo began working on his organs, healing them, and then went out from there.

Theo turned to the closest member of his group, Joe, and said, " Can you help me get the guy's armor off? Ripped the man’s armor off him a little at a time, and I’ll heal as the pieces come off,”

Joe came closer to him and started working together with Theo to get the armor off and heal the poor man. It took him about 30 minutes to fully heal him. Then Theo took a moment for himself. After that, he went back to reconnect the woman’s nerve endings in her arm fully. Theo grabbed a mana potion from his storage ring, chugging it after that. Theo turned towards the fight half a block away; he saw the brainwashed group only had one mage left, and that was a fire mage who seemed quite powerful alone. He was able to stop the four mages on their side to a standstill, shooting out fireballs rapidly, and the mages on their side were throwing up shields across the front line to block them. The front liners on both sides were going at it fiercely, with swords and axes. Various other weapons clashed once again, fighting each other. No quarter was given on either side. An arrow came out of nowhere and went through the fire mage's neck. From there, the mages were able to focus on helping subdue the rest of the melee fighters. Still, the frontline fighters were not going down easily. Theo used Healer's Intuition and saw many dead bodies on the ground. The people that he healed grabbed the rest of the wounded from both sides of the conflict. Theo told which ones needed to be bound. As that was going on, the fight was brought to an end, and the people who were enthralled were utterly wiped out.

After the fight, several people came to Theo for healing. The last person Theo healed, he asked the man. “How come your group doesn’t have a Healer?

“Well, it’s pretty obvious there aren’t many people who have the Healer class who are willing to go into combat,” the guy said, rolling his eyes.

A woman who was standing close to the man, but Theo did not notice because his focus was on the man at the time, punched the man.

“Be nice, he just healed your sorry ass,” the woman said

“My apologies, I’m sorry for being flippant,” the man said

“Apology accepted,” Theo said with a nod.

Part of the group broke off and took the prisoners. Theo and his group went off to continue looking for more people.
