154~To Cure The Lake (2)

Yvlena glared at the fish-man hybrid with a hint of disgust, with her new head gear she could smell the stench of rot that followed as it pulled itself forward. Codhessen seemed more like a dying fish than a creature she should have been fighting.

She wondered if he had been the guardian of the lake much like Crocante had been for the swamp, the thought sparked some emotion in her.

No matter, there was no time to be thinking about such a thing. Kazat, Crocante and even Viseli had been taken over by the miasma and no longer knew themselves or those they cared about.

While it wasn’t their fault, Yvlena would have to fight this new creature and hopefully gain some clues as to what it was before, all she could do for Codhessen now was purify the Miasma and save the lake.

She put Kuti beside a large rock a bit far from the lake bed where the battle would occur.

Yvlena nodded to her, the doll already knew what she should be doing since the last time the summoner put her down during a fight. Kuti knew it would not be viable to have Yvlena carry her everywhere especially in a battle such as this.

The porcelain doll nodded and already began casting the spell.

  [Kuti cast Weaken (03MP)]

[Codhessen afflicted with weakness -25% HP]

With her upgraded sickle in her hand Yvlena ran forward with Rabbit knight behind, Sprite stayed behind rendering support to Kuti who had a chance of being attacked if left unguarded.

  [Yvlena Cast Crescent Throw (10MP)]

The sickle bounced out of Yvlena’s hand as she ran, rotating through the air and striking the fish creature in the head. She leaped into the air and caught her blade just as Rabbit Knight prepared his own attack.

  [Rabbit Knight Cast Slash (03MP)]

Rabbit Knight leapt into the air and shot forward with his rapier pointed at the fish, dealing a blow to its eye.

The fish creature made no sound, only inhaling silently, it focused its eyes on Yvlena once more and then began breathing in.

  [Codhessen Cast Catch]

The creature’s mouth opened wide, and soon a gust of air began vacuuming the surrounding, sucking in anything not firmly fixed to the ground.

Yvlena gasped, her mind flashing back to when Crocante had sucked up her weapon.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“Oh no you don’t!” She growled, heaving her sickle and embedding it deeply in to the ground. She grabbed a hold of Rabbit Knight who was just about to be sent flying toward the Miasmic Entity’s waiting mouth.

The Rabbit shot her a thankful look as the leaves and grass blew all around them.

Beside the large rock, Kuti held onto Sprite who’s tiny figure would have been swept up by the winds if the doll didn’t hold her close.

The fish creature closed its mouth and prepared for an offensive attack

  [Codhessen Cast Release]

The fish took another deep breath and spat. Yvlena watched a sticky glob of fluid containing the previously suctioned debris head towards her, she dove in the other direction and watched the dark, oily liquid splash against the grassy floor.

Codhessen scurried over to her, but she gripped her Moon Sickle tight and unleashed her fury.

  [Yvlena Cast Crescent Slash (15MP)]

A beam of lilac light whipped against the fish’s oily skin, forcing Codhessen back, the creature’s dull eyes stared back at Yvlena as if in confusion but she knew it had its eyes fixed on her weapon.

“I’ve learned my lesson, you’re not getting your hands on my blade.” Yvlena said.

[Yvlena cast Harvest Skill: Wide Sweep]

The wave of energy further forced the fish man hybrid back, though Codhessen dug its rough webbed hands into the grassy bed, trying to avoid the now fresh water of the lake.

“Kuti cast Paralyze!” Yvlena said holding her sickle close to her, it was then she noticed the roses along the hilt of her blade begin to glow a strange color.

  [Yvlena Cast Rose’s Fury (15MP)]

As if the game was telling her what to do, she heaved her sickle once more and plunged the short hilt into the ground and watched as a fury of thorns erupted spreading over to where Codhessen was scrambling to flee from her attack.

Unfortunately the thorn’s range wasn’t as far as Yvlena would have liked and only narrowly missed the creature by a hair’s breath.

“Damn it!” She cursed, if only Codhessen’s paralysis had come into effect then, she would have been able to hit him. She ran forward, before Codhessen could regain its bearings and attack.

Rabbit Knight was already beside it, wasting no time jabbing his rapier into the fish’s side.

[Rabbit Knight Cast Rabbit Volley (05MP)]

Rabbit Knight’s furry paw jabbed furiously as he jumped away to avoid the large webbed hands the fish would have squashed him with.

  [Yvlena Cast Crescent Throw (10MP)]

Her sickle flew, slicing across the skin of the creature with little resistance before returning to her hand.

  [Kuti cast Weaken (03MP)]

[Codhessen afflicted with weakness -10% AGI]

“Perfect!” Yvlena said, shooting forward and lifting her Moon Sickle into the air. She brought the throny tip down on Codhessen’s head with a battle cry.

Despite the successful attack she failed to avoid it’s whiskers and Yvlena soon found herself in trouble as the wiry fibers wrapped around her middle in no time, binding Yvlena’s arms and weapon to her side.

  “Uh oh!”

  [Codhessen Cast Release]

The creature wound its whisker back and pitched Yvlena like a baseball, into a tree. The elven girl could only brace herself as she collided with the bark of an old wooden tree, she crashed hard, arching her back at the sudden collision with the wood.

Alarm bells rang in her head as she checked the immense damage to her HP.

“Okay, next time don’t get caught by the whiskers.” Yvlena mutters, pulling herself out of the now shattered wood. It was amazing she didn’t get any splinters but reasoned that might be too realistic. After downing one of the spare HP potions in her inventory she turned her eyes back to the battle.

She kept her eye fixed firmly on the large Miasmic Entity within the wide open space that was the Verdant Lake’s area and an idea occurred to her. The same that hit her when she fought the Field mouse Sentinel.

She took a familiar bell out of her inventory and whispered to it.

“Elio, I’m going to need some help.” She said, ringing the bell. Just like the last time she had done this, the bell rang, resounded all over the area.

Elio appeared in a shower of stars once again lending to its childlike appearance, it gave Yvlena a wink then reared its teddy bear fist back and punched the Codhessen as hard as it could.

The fish shuddered, and Yvlena could see its had swirls in its eyes. It seemed Elio’s attack had staggered it.

With his attack action done Elio, waved to Yvlena from where he was standing and disappeared in a puff of yellow smoke.

“I’ll never get tired of seeing that bear.”

With their enemy downed, Yvlena and Rabbit Knight partnered up to unleash their version of the Crescent Slash combo.

  [Battle Skill: Crescent Slash Combo]

Codhessen fell limply to the ground, its tail swishing weakly as it began disappearing into flakes of light.

Yvlena saw herself reflected in its pale eyes and couldn’t help but feel sorry for it. Who had Codhessen been before the Miasma had taken over?

Was it a pet fish like Kazat? A guardian like Crocante or even Viseli?

“Hope you find yourself in a better place Codhessen.” Yvlena said solemnly.
