Before Yvlena could fully process the system message. The sound of water sloshing caught her attention.
She dismissed the message and turned around to find the lake bubbling, suddenly a whirlpool opened up, swirling with an alarming intensity.

“B-But I just beat Codhessen!” Yvlena said as she leapt back, but she wasn't sure she would be able to take on another battle so soon.
Before her eyes, a pair of arms rose from the maelstrom, slim and pale. Soon a dark and elegant figure pulled themselves out of the pollution free waters.
It was a woman. Dressed in a soaked gown that hugged the curves of her body. Yvlena noticed first how the water beaded against her pale skin, like an oily surface it didn't stick.
Long, wet hair stuck to her and Yvlena could scarcely make out what color it was supposed to be.
A smell followed the woman's rise as she stood upon the water’s surface, blackening where her feet touched. Yvlena knew by now that it was the smell of Miasma.
Whoever this person was, she must have polluted the lake. A knot formed in Yvlena’s stomach as she watched the humanoid figure approach.
It wasn't long before the figure caught Yvlena staring with dull, slit pupils.
“Was it you who slayed my dearest Codhessen?” A cruel smile stretched across her lips showing rows of pointed teeth.
Yvlena gulped, taking a step back she realized this person must have been a higher entity of some kind, one powerful enough to pollute the lake and twist Codhessen into an abomination.
The other Miasmic entities she had encountered were barely coherent. This woman (if she could even be called that) was dangerously sane.
The knot in her stomach grew, Yvlena found herself frightened of the figure, a feeling she had never experienced in the game.
An oily black bubble formed in the woman's hands and as Yvlena prepared herself for attack a system prompt filled her eyes.
[Quest: Run]
Yvlena blinked, there was no story, no lore information for the quest, no rewards, just one clear objective.
And it was to get the hell out of there.
A sickly oily bubble flew past her ear, striking the tree where she stood. The roots groaned and soon the tree began to tilt sideways as the Miasma ate up the wood.
Yvlena called back her summons, without waiting to see them vanish back into the summons space.
There was no time to command them, Rabbit Knight would have no doubt wanted to fight but this was not the time for it. Yvlena didn't want to take the risk.
She turned towards the other side of the forest and ran back to Bloom Haven.
The entity did not follow but Yvlena could still hear her cackling in the background where she had left her.
“This won't be the last you see of Enis!” The voice called as Yvlena ran.
Enis? She would keep that name in mind.
The elven girl ran and ran all the way back to Bloom Haven with one victory on her hand at least.
Just who was that person? And why did the game tell her to run. Yvlena didn't let these questions plague her as she ran from the Verdant Woods back to the Bloom Meadow and eventually to Bloom Haven where she bumped into Soren.
“Slow down Yv! Where's the fire?” The gentle giant asked with a short laugh.
Yvlena panted, surprised by the exhaustion she felt as she ran. She thought this VR model didn't have a stamina meter.
“In the Verdant Woods, something came out when I beat the Miasma.” Yvlena said, resting her hands on her knees. She pushed her pink strands out of her face and looked up at Soren’s confused expression.
The Blacksmith furrowed his brows and rubbed his chin as if trying to come up with a better question.
[Quest Complete: Run]
[Book: Gods of Moon Valley has been updated]
Even with the objective complete there was no story, nothing to tell Yvlena why she had to run.
She didn't need a warning though. The smell on the entity was the thickest she had smelled of the Miasma.
The bubble of fear burst and Yvlena only sighed and placed her hands on her hips.
“The upgrade really helped with the monster in the Verdant Lake. Thank you, Soren.” The elven girl said, changing the subject.
Soren beamed.
“I would say it was my finest work year!” His eyes sparkled as he spoke. Yvlena laughed, shaking off some of the lingering fear that clung to her mind.
“Keep an eye out for those Rose Ores.” Yvlena said.
----------
Aya took off the headset and collapsed into her bed breathing heavily.
“What an intense session.” She said sitting up. It was evening now and no doubt Mars would be rounding up her own gaming session so they could start making dinner.
Aya jumped out of bed ready to head into the kitchen when she noticed the room around her.
“Oh, that's right…I'm not in Axen anymore.” Aya smiled to herself and opened the door to see Mars coming out of the other room.
The dark haired girl yawned, the impacts of her time inside the gaming pod showing in her eyes.
“Long session?”
“The grind never stops.” Mars said. “What about you? You look like a boss just gave you hell.”
“Not a boss but something even more dangerous.” Aya said.
Mars rose and eyebrows, by now the two girls stood in the kitchen of their new home talking.
“She called herself Enis.” Aya told Mars as she grabbed a pitcher of water from the fridge and poured some into a cup.
“I was low on health and the game told me to run so I did.”
“The game told you to run?!” Mars asked, more for clarification than misunderstanding.
“Yeah, a quest. When I did, it updated a book in the library so I assume it's story related.” Aya said.
“Gotta be, I've only heard of one case like that before on the forums and it was when someone encountered an ancient being.” Mars said.
“Ancient being?”
“I'm surprised you don't know, the gods of Moon Valley are dead but they left a bunch of stuff behind, not all of its loot.” Mars explained, taking a sip out of the glass of water Aya had poured for her.
“Wow.” Aya gasped in awe. “Enis has got to be some sort of Ancient Miasmic being then, she told me she created the boss I fought before I met her.”
“Interesting.” Mars said. “Never heard of that before, you just keep surprising me Aya.” Mars smirked.
