[War of the Gods 7.5% completion]

The game told Yvlena as she walked, pondering Risel’s words. But just how had the two gods died? Had they been attacked? If so, by who?

Yvlena had a culprit in mind but the pollutant gods were just too easy of a bet. There had to be stronger evil gods out there.

“I see I’ve got you thinking. It’s a shame Bloom Haven doesn’t have a lot of texts on our elven gods. You’ll have to go to Alfinheim to find more text on it.” Risel explained. “Despite them being our patron gods our library is still quite small.”

Yvlena resolved to keep that in the back of her mind, if she recalled, Nisha was on her way to Alfinheim.

“I might head there when I get the chance.” Yvlena said “I’m sure Laurent would love it if I made some more copies for him.” Yvlena giggled, she imagined the grumpy librarian’s face lighting up at the sight of the vast knowledge found in other libraries.

“Hmmmph! Well I guess.” Risel said, she seemed a bit grumpy at the mention of Laurent’s name but Yvlena decided to leave that alone for now. The elf couldn’t be jealous could she?

As she pondered the answer to her question a soft hiss caught her attention. Yvlena stopped, turning to Rabbit knight who let her know he heard it too.

“What is it, Yvlena?” Risel asked.

“Rabbit Knight and I heard something close by.” Yvlena said, clutching the handle of her Moon Sickle tightly.

The party was now on alert for whatever had made the sound, eyes darted to the trees and then the path in front of them, Risel whimpered as she frantically searched the trees for what could potentially be another spider.

“There!” Sprite pointed to where they caught sight of a large tail disappearing into the bushes. At the sight of it, the party huddled close together.

It had to be a Miasmic beast of some kind, but something about the tail reminded Yvlena of a snake. She hoped it was something a little less frightening.

Another hiss slid by them, forcing Yvlena to spin abruptly and gaze upon the long serpentine body of something large slithering into the bushes. She gasped, grabbing Risel’s arm and pulling her along with the summons to run.

If they couldn’t make it out in time maybe they wouldn’t have to fight the giant snake she just glimpsed.

Their feet pounded against the somewhat oily grass Yvlena pulled them forwards, slashing and cutting branches and leaves out of her way with a determined expression on her face.

Behind them, something followed, just as swiftly as they ran the beast trailed behind them with an open maw ready to swallow them whole should they stop.

“Risel don’t look back!” Yvlena yelled, as the other elf ran she spun around to slash her sickle in the air.

Pink hair whipped around her face as she moved with enhanced dexterity to return to the path ahead, her summons had followed Risel as Yvlena had intended while she attacked the thing she couldn’t see. Soft hissing trailed her but at least she still had Elio.

“This probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do.” Yvlena said, turning around to run.

Risel was waiting with a smack for her by the time she caught up with the other elf. The blonde smacked the back of Yvlena’s head with an open palm as she glared and set her mouth in a grim line.

“I had to distract whatever that was before it got to us, it was surprisingly fast Risel. I almost couldn’t keep up with it.” Yvlena explained apologetically. “It’s my job to protect you, remember?”

“I guess, but I could have helped you somehow Yvlena don’t just-” Risel’s words were abruptly cut off once they noticed the area they were standing in. Risel had gone silent, and was now standing deathly still as if she had seen a ghost.

Yvlena paused, glancing around to search for the source of Risel’s shock. Her eyes fell on a caravan, much like Ricardo’s. The large vehicle lay on its side, the wood was torn to pieces by what seemed like bite marks.

A beast of some sort had done this to it and worse still the driver was inside, reflected in Risel’s eyes were the remains of the driver missing an arm. The appendage lay a few feet away, now skeletal remains.

There was no question in Yvlena’s mind about what could have done this, and the thing was only a path away from them. Something told her she would have to fight it.

[Subclass Quest: It Stalks The Woods

The Verdant Woods have only just been unsealed by the Harvest Guardian after being submerged within the influence of the Miasma for the longest time.

Strange and dangerous creatures stalk the forest but one in particular is imbued with a streak of viciousness so deep it simply won’t allow any travelers to pass.

Slay the creature and rid the Verdant Woods of it’s presence.

  [Do You Accept?]

  [Yes/No]

Yvlena hit yes without hesitation, it was her duty as the Harvest Guardian to do it after all, now she just had to find a way to face the snake without getting Risel hurt. The girl puffed her cheeks with air, wondering how she would proceed.

Risel and Kuti could hide in the caravan while she fought the beast off, but it wouldn’t take long for it to notice them if they remained in one place.

‘I’ll just have to make sure it doesn’t notice then.’

As Yvlena pondered where to go from there, Risel took her time inspecting the caravan. The dead did not scare her, as an elf these were the fleeting moments where she was humbly reminded of her mortality.

As she had learned, even gods were capable of being slain.

Risel placed Kuti on the ground beside the caravan, allowing the doll to stretch her legs and run up to its summoner.

The elf lifted herself into the caravan where the skeletal remains of a human lay undisturbed until now, with careful maneuvering, she pulled the rest of the body out of the overturned caravan and laid it against the grass.

“Risel, what are you up to?” Yvlena said coming closer to inspect what was going on beside the caravan.

“We have to give him or her a proper burial.” Risel said quietly. “I know as the Harvest Guardian you will probably have to slay the creature that did this but for now we must lay them to rest.”

Yvlena nodded, shovel in hand from her inventory.

Risel didn’t question it as she started digging the soft earth beneath a large tree.

“I’ve found that trees make the best head stones.” Yvlena said to her. Risel offered a soft smile at the words. The elves prayed but Yvlena knew she would still have to offer a few words for him back at the temple on the other side.

As she expected the sound of something moving among the bushes snapped her and her summons out of their brief respite. Yvlena traded her shovel for the Moon Sickle and turned around to face the monstrous serpent.
