“Corrupted greater serpent.” Yvlena murmured as she stared into the amber slit eyes of the giant black snake. Could this be another creature corrupted by Enis? Or was it simply an unlucky beast under the influence of the Miasma?

  The beast before her was a large and beautiful serpent of predominantly shiny obsidian scales with flecks of opal and red in-between, Its eyes were a bright amber and were currently focused on Yvlena and her sickle.

  The serpent flicked its tongue out scenting the air and it raised itself to reveal its hood of the same beautiful pattern, it hissed viciously, baring its fangs in a declaration of a fierce battle to come.

  Yvlena had no time to ponder why such a striking creature was now attacking them as she turned to Risel and said.

  “You and Kuti behind the caravan!”

  The blonde elf grabbed the little doll and dashed for the overturned vehicle, the serpent moved to stop them but Yvlena already beat it to act.

  The arc swept across the area, hitting the distracted snake square in its neck and forcing its attention back on Yvlena.

  “Your fight is with me.” Yvlena said, lifting her sickle to challenge the snake. Before it could move Sprite and Rabbit Knight launched a combo of their own.

  “Vulnerability to fire?”

  Rabbit Knight raced up the serpent’s tail while Sprite distracted it with a flurry of stings and stuns. The rabbit kicked up with powerful feet, pointing its rapier ahead and leaping straight into the Snake’s eye to jab.

  The beast screeched, and with its tail, slapped Rabbit Knight towards Yvlena the moment he landed.

  “Rabbit Knight!” She and Sprite called the moment he flew, Yvlena ran, diving to catch her summon before he could make contact with the ground. The two of them landed, rolling towards the tree where they had buried the unnamed traveler.

  “Are you two alright?” Risel called, tossing Yvlena a health potion. She handed it to Rabbit Knight who downed it in a gulp.

  “We’re fine! Risel do you have any more Explosive potions?”

  “I’ll whip one up!” The elf said, placing Kuti down and taking out her cauldron to begin brewing.

  Now all Yvlena had to do was keep her safe while she brewed.

  The Serpent stopped panicking and stared for a moment, sticking it’s forked tongue out before opening its mouth for a move of its own.

  Yvlena groaned and dashed behind the tree, she hated poison. Ever since she was bitten by one of the venomous spiders in the Verdant Woods she dreaded to be poisoned again, especially now that the sensation would be twice as strong.

  She and Rabbit Knight dove behind a large tree as the Serpent released an acrid smelling spray from its poison glands, the green liquid hit the grass with a splat melting the grass until it was nothing but a bare patch.

  Yvlena gaped, if that had touched her, it would have been a nasty burn and poison. Risel and Kuti were safe behind the caravan and soon the fruits of their labor would come to fruition.

  [Corrupted Greater Serpent Cast: Tail Whip]

  The serpent’s tail moved in an arc, smashing into the tree Yvlena and Rabbit Knight hid behind. Yvlena grabbed the Rabbit, tucking him against her chest as the tree withstood the onslaught of hits from the corrupted beast’s tail.

  [Sprite Cast Stun (03MP)]

  The tiny forest sprite flitted around the snake’s head, blasting it with beams of light and trying to stun it. That got the snake’s attention enough to remove its focus off Yvlena.

  A large bottle collided with the serpent’s long body, bursting into flames as orange fire lapped at the snake’s skin. The corrupted serpent writhed in agony but neither Yvlena nor her summons gave it a chance to fight back.

  The Moon Sickle glowed and Yvlena ran up to the creature and plunged the Sickle’s hilt into the ground, lively green thorns burst out from the forest floor, wrapping the greater serpent in a tangle of thorns.

  Rabbit Knight raced up Yvlena’s bent back, jumping into the air and slashing hard at the snake’s eyes.

  “That’s what I’m talking about!” Yvlena said, jumping to go for the serpent’s throat.

  She slashed the snake’s throat, dealing critical damage from where she attacked. The elf landed hard on the ground but wasn’t fast enough to avoid the snake’s erratic tail movement. It struck her hard, sending her flying across the area and rolling into the caravan where Kuti and Risel hid.

  “Yvlena!” Risel and Sprite called, the Forest Sprite flew towards her, hurriedly casting cure until Yvlena regained her bearings.

  With the snake blind, it was no match for Rabbit Knight, who dashed about before it could land a hit on it.

  [Rabbit Knight Cast Rabbit Volley (05MP)]

  At the sight of its injured summoner Rabbit Knight was overcome with rage. He charged recklessly, stabbing the same spot Yvlena had attacked, furiously.

  The giant serpent cried out, landing head first on the ground and slithering forward directionlessly.

  “Rabbit Knight watch out!”

  [Corrupted Greater Serpent Cast Bite]

  In a futile effort to win, the snake once again opened its maw and lunged for the nearest opponent, Rabbit Knight braced itself but the hit never came.

  Yvlena stood with the hook of her sickle embedded in the roof of the Serpent’s mouth. Her arms strained as she fought to keep the fangs from bearing down on her.

  “Ugh!” She cried, she could barely hold on, one wrong move and she would be swallowed. “Rabbit Knight, Sprite I can’t hold on! You have to finish this.” the Serpent began wriggling, making it all the more difficult for her to hold on as the beast began trying to close it’s mouth.

  Vines grew, wrapping around the serpent’s head, even as it flared it’s hood to ward off the bindings it was no use. Sprite had grown a lot stronger since the first time she entered battle.

  “Good job Kuti!” Risel said, hurling another bottle of her fresh brew. The bottle exploded into furious flames, the snake roared in agony, giving Yvlena enough time to wrench her sickle free.

  Finally the serpent fell dead, ending the battle. Yvlena watched it dissolve into flakes of light, melting away into nothingness like all her foes before it. She couldn’t help but wonder if the traveler’s soul was at rest now that she had killed the creature that caused their death.
