Yvlena was bombarded with information as soon as the Snake vanished, letting her know that she and her summons had grown stronger from the battle but that wouldn’t be the end of it. The quest log would soon pop up now that she had finished up this quest.

[Subclass Quest: It Stalks The Woods

The Verdant Woods have only just been unsealed by the Harvest Guardian after being submerged within the influence of the Miasma for the longest time.

Strange and dangerous creatures stalk the forest but one in particular is imbued with a streak of viciousness so deep it simply won’t allow any travelers to pass.

Slay the creature and rid the Verdant Woods of it’s presence.

  Garden Mystic (Harvest Guardian) 6/10]

Risel came out from behind the caravan, sighing in relief at the battle’s end. She wasn’t cut out for fighting such huge beasts but with Yvlena by her side, the journey would progress no matter what the Deeper Verdant Woods threw at them.

“You alright?” Yvlena asked, rushing over to the girl to check her over.

“I should be asking you that!” Risel said, smacking Yvlena’s arm playfully. The other elf looked no worse for wear and didn’t seem like she had fought any battles save for the few specks of dirt on her outfit.

Risel stared in awe, her Harvest Guardian was truly formidable. Yvlena had charged the snake over and over again not just to protect Risel but her summons as well. Risel recalled another Harvest Guardian of times long past, a woman who could also summon but she could not recall all the details.

“I couldn’t have done this without you, Risel.” Yvlena said, smiling brightly. The thoughts swirling around Risel’s mind vanished at the sight of Yvlena’s bright smile.

“That’s why you need to get better at Alchemy, Yvlena, aren’t I always telling you?” The blonde elf teased.

“I will, I will, even my cooking needs some work.” Yvlena said. The two of them began walking again with summons in tow down the next path.

  ----------

Yvlena, Risel and the summons had just crossed the threshold of the next area when they were greeted with a modest stone building, with a straw roof. It had a sign swaying limply in the wind that read ‘Corr’s Inn’

Yvlena cheered, rushing towards the building that looked to be falling apart. The stone looked to be wearing away with age but the chimney’s rising smoke let them know it was occupied.

An inn was just the perfect place to rest.

“Yvlena! Wait up!” Risel called, following after her. Sprite flew and Rabbit Knight kept pace with his summoner as she reached the Inn’s front door.

‘Finally a rest stop, this has got to be the safest place to log out at. I might even be able to get some food when I rest up.’ She thought.

Yvlena waited for Risel to catch up, then dismissed her summons so they could get some rest of their own. She nodded to the alchemist and pushed the door open with a creak.

From inside a plump woman sat up behind the counter at the sight of the two girl entering the inn.

“Good Day!” She called, hopping over the counter in a haste to get to them. She reached them huffing, allowing Yvlena to get a good look at her.

The plump woman, had long blonde hair tied up in a bun under a scarf, she wore a simple dress with a pinafore over it. Her warm brown eyes looked over Yvlena and Risel eagerly.

“Welcome to Corr’s inn, I’m Ivory. Pardon me, it’s been such a long time since we’ve gotten any customers with both Bloom Haven and the Verdant Vale close off.” She said.

“We just came from Bloom Haven!” Risel said in excitement. “I’m Risel and this is my friend, Yvlena.”

“But how? The road has been closed off for so long. The path to Bloom Haven has been blocked by the Miasma since I was a little girl.”

“I’ve cleared the way to Bloom Haven should you need to head there for anything.” Yvlena said.

“You?” A man who had been sitting at one of the tables said incredulously. “I’ve heard of the arrogance of the elves but that’s ridiculous.”

Yvlena turned to the balding, red faced man who had clearly been drinking from a keg of beer. He jabbed a finger in her direction and snarled.

“Even if you could squeeze past the Miasma, there’s no way you could have slain the beast that killed Jack!”

“Was that the man in the caravan? We gave him a proper burial too.” Risel said, trying to calm her temper. Yvlena shook her head, she had dealt with people like that in the real world. You could bring them the world and they would say it’s because you couldn’t afford the moon and stars.

“You saw the caravan?” Ivory said quietly. “You saw Jack?”

“I killed the Obsidian Serpent that was haunting the path there.” Yvlena said, completely ignoring the man. She pulled the snake skin from her inventory and showed Ivory the obsidian snake skin she had won off killing the enemy.

“Rest assured, if you try to go back to Moon Valley now, you’ll find nothing but the regular wolves and foxes.” Yvlena said, smiling at Ivory. The woman’s eyes were glassy with unshed tears, she turned around to wipe them.

“You said you buried Jack, does that mean I could visit his grave?”

“Of course, anytime you wish.” Yvlena said, resting a hand on the woman’s shoulder. Ivory nodded, smiling sadly.

Yvlena understood, the Miasma had separated so many families and friends from each other. Taken so many. She had to set things right.

“Before we continue on our journey, is there any way I could get a room for me and my friend to rest?” Yvlena asked.

“O-Of course, right away.” Ivory said, rushing back to her counter.

Checking into the inn wasn’t difficult. Yvlena paid a standard fare of 500 Moon Points and proceeded to head up to the room she would be sharing with Risel.

It was a simple wooden room with two beds at either side of the walls and a large window she could peer into to see the rest of the land.

Yvlena flopped unto the bed and turned to Risel with what she hoped was a tired expression.

“I’m going to rest a bit.”

Risel nodded eagerly, settling down on her own bed.

“Don’t worry, after a battle like that I’m not surprised, I could use some sleep myself.” Risel said.
