Conrad stood among the other applicants in the main hall as Beans looked at them.
"We have arrived at our designated location," he announced calmly. "Moonlight Cave System."
One by one, the applicants exited the airship.
The air here was colder.
After everyone disembarked, the airship ascended again, its engines roaring as it disappeared into the sky.
Silence followed.
Then a man stepped forward.
He wore a tall bck top-hat and a long coat that brushed against the stone floor.
His sharp eyes scanned the remaining hundred applicants.
"I am Nate," he said evenly. "The examiner of the Fourth Exam."
His voice was neither loud nor soft but everyone heard it clearly.
"I assume you have received preliminary information. This exam is titled: Moonlight Cave – Fg Battle."
Nate continued.
"You will be divided into two teams. Team A and Team B. We will draw lots to determine your pcement."
"Team A will wear red shoulderbands. Team B will wear blue."
Conrad watched carefully.
A team-based exam.
"In these kinds of exams Individual strength would matter but so would cooperation."
"The battlefield," Nate continued, "is approximately one and a half kilometers in length and one hundred fifty meters in width."
He gestured behind him pointing the inside of the cave.
"Both teams will have a base at opposite ends of the cave system," Nate expined. "Each base will contain a fg. One red. One blue."
Assistants dispyed two folded fgs.
"The objective is simple," Nate said. "Defend your own fg. Capture the enemy's fg. Bring it back to your base and pnt it beside yours."
He paused, letting the simplicity sink in.
"When both fgs stand together at one base, the exam ends."
Nate's gaze hardened slightly.
"The winning team advances to the next exam. The losing team is disqualified."
He continued.
"Murder and grievous injuries are strictly prohibited. The cave system is monitored by our personnel and technological systems. Any participant who kills or intentionally causes life-threatening harm will be immediately disqualified."
"This is not a sughter," Nate added. "This is a test of coordination, strategy, restraint, and combat capability."
Conrad understood the purposse of the Exam but he believes there are many people here would have problem restraining himself in such an exam.
Compared to the other exam, this exam was different.
Different in terms of the fact that it is not just stealing something from the target.
It needed direct combat to stop others and help your teammate to carry the fg.
Because many here especially individuals like Hisoka were not known for restraint.
Conrad subtly scanned the crowd.
Hisoka stood rexed, hands in pockets, faint smile on his lips.
Team battle.
Limited killing.
Fgs.
To someone like him, this would either be extremely amusing.
For Hisoka, not killing his enemy is more of a problem than not killing it.
Nate motioned to the assistants.
"Step forward. Draw your lots."
One by one, applicants approached.
Red.
Blue.
Red.
Blue.
The distribution continued evenly.
When Conrad's turn arrived, he stepped forward without hesitation and reached into the container.
His fingers brushed against folded paper.
He pulled one.
Opened it.
Blue.
He accepted the blue shoulderband and tied it around his upper arm.
Team B.
He immediately scanned for key individuals.
Hisoka and then he saw that he was "Red".
At the same time, Nate cpped and showed a guy which looked like a wild beast.
"This is Togari, he will be inside the cave and will monitor everything."
"Togari is the second examiner of this exam and he is with me."
The people nodded, While Conrad gulped. he starts to remember some other things about the reality of 286th Hunter Exam.
"Togari is the hunter he injured and If I am not wrong, Hisoka also killed more than fifteen to twenty applicants..."
"He is not the best teammate." Conrad whispered.
Which he then understand.
"In this exam, Hisoka will have problem with his teammates our in the exam in general and start killing people then decide to attack to Togari."
"It will be the Exam that he will be disqualified and at least fifteen to twenty people will die under his hands."
Conrad then nodded.
"I should stay put and keep clear of him while focusing on the exam."
"As long as I do not get in front of him and encounter to him, I would be say that I would be not having any problem."
"Follow the marked paths," he instructed. "Team A to the north entrance. Team B to the south."
Assistants separated the groups efficiently.
While Togari went in before the others.
Conrad moved with Team B toward the southern tunnel.
As they entered, the temperature dropped noticeably.
The interior of Moonlight Cave was vast.
The ground was uneven but navigable for athletic individuals.
After walking several hundred meters, they reached their base.
A raised stone ptform marked the center.
A blue fg stood pnted firmly in a metal fixture embedded in the rock.
Several Hunter Association staff members stood at the periphery, observing silently.
Nate's voice echoed faintly through installed speakers.
"The exam begins in five minutes."
Murmurs broke out among Team B.
Some immediately began forming small clusters.
In a forced cooperation environment, the strongest often became targets either relied upon too heavily or deliberately undermined.
He stepped toward the edge of the base area and looked down the long corridor stretching toward the enemy side.
One and a half kilometers.
Narrow.
Meaning engagement was inevitable.
This would become a choke-point war.
"Defend and attack simultaneously," Conrad thought.
"If too many commit to offense, the base becomes vulnerable."
"If too many defend, no one pressures the enemy and ther will be no opening for anybody to take the fg."
Somewhere in that direction
Hisoka waited.
Nate's voice rang out once more.
"Five."
"Four."
"Three."
The cave seemed to hold its breath.
"Two."
Conrad lowered his stance slightly.
"One."
"Begin."
