Chapter 119

Elicia examined the three formations one st time: the Attacker Team positioned at the cavern’s forward tunnel, the Defender Team spaced in staggered intervals, and the ten Guardians clustered within a tight perimeter around the blue fg.

“I will remain with the Guardian Team,” she said. “Ten of us will hold the fg directly. I will lead here.”

  There were no objections.

  It made sense.

  The fg was the core.

If it fell, everything else became meaningless.

“For the other teams,” she continued, "choose your team leaders.”

The defenders did not hesitate long.

  A broad-shouldered middle-aged man stepped forward.

“I’ve coordinated group exercises before. I’ll take the Defender lead.”

On the attacker's side, a younger, lean, sharp-eyed man volunteered next.

“I served in border patrol,” he said. “Not Kakin-level, but enough to know formation movement and pressure tactics. I’ll lead the attack.”

  Elicia nodded approvingly.

She did not want to make it apparent, but she preferred people who served in some sort of military or had battle experience.

“We’ve already lost five to seven minutes organizing,” she said.

“We do not know their structure. We must assume they are also preparing.”

She stepped closer to the two newly chosen leaders.

“Attacker team, move forward in formation. Ten to fifteen of you push ahead to gauge combat capability. The remaining five split along fnks.”

“Observe first. Engage only if advantageous.”

The young attacker leader nodded, absorbing every word.

“When you detect weakness,” Elicia continued, “fall back briefly. Regroup with defenders. Then strike with heavier force.”

She paused before adding the final yer.

“The fastest among you, those confident in speed and agility, focus on bypassing defenders. Do not waste time in extended fights. The objective is the fg.”

  Conrad listened.

“From a structural standpoint, it was competent.”

  “From a strategic standpoint?”

  “Meaningless if certain variables acted"

But only he knew those really important variables, and he did not want to speak of any of those things to change events.

As long as he knows what could happen and most likely is going to happen, he has his chance to protect himself.

If not, he would prefer to keep his mouth shut.

He leaned lightly against the cavern wall.

“If Hisoka chose to move alone, none of this mattered.” That was the most important variable.

“Hisoka can use Zetsu to mask his presence.”

“His speed would allow infiltration bypassing all the others, maybe stopping at only me," Conrad thought.

“Bungee Gum would secure the fg instantly.”

The match could end in under two minutes.

  All this organization…

It was simply theater until chaos arrived.

“I wonder how long,” Conrad thought calmly, “until Hisoka grows bored.”

  He almost found it amusing.

Not much time ter, people started moving.

The attacker team advanced into the darker tunnels in disciplined strides.

The Defender leader ordered people to station themselves in the key areas and get ready to defend.

  Guardians tightened formation.

“Let’s wait,” he murmured faintly. “I can do more if necessary.”

  His tone held no urgency.

Behind him, Elicia watched everything carefully.

  She noticed Conrad’s positioning.

She drew in a slow breath.

“I wonder about their structure,” she thought. “Do they have a leader strong enough to impose control?”

Her experience as a former Kakin major sharpened her instincts.

She could read posture, tension, and hidden confidence.

That was also why she kept looking at Conrad from time to time; compared to all applicants and exam-takers, this guy had a different energy on him that she could not name with ease.

It is like he was a different kind of a man, mysterious and powerful without a doubt.

But it did not feel familiar.

With one look, Elicia can understand and see with ease that Conrad was not military or some sort of sociopath; he was different, but how different beats her to it.

On the opposing team were individuals impossible to ignore.

  Hisoka, for one.

Even without knowing full details of his abilities, his demeanor alone screamed chaos.

From a distance, Conrad and Elicia’s thoughts were surprisingly aligned.

Both recognized that pns rarely survived first contact.

Both understood that certain individuals could warp the battlefield beyond structure.

The difference y in emotional investment.

Conrad did not care much about all the things that are happening, and Elicia cared a lot.

She wanted to pass this exam to reach her goals even more and have more chances to learn and reach her goals with more ease.
