Chapter 3 - First Friend Obtained

Walking into the classroom Sarah was visibly nervous, although she thought she was hiding it well, many students were busy talking to each other about various subjects and she noted most of the class had already arrived based on the fact that there were only a few vacant seats. She greeted the teacher and confirmed that this was the right class, upon confirmation her nerves eased and she sat down in one of the available chairs, she preferred to be closer to the front if possible but the remaining seats were at the back so she accepted her fate and silently complained to herself.

Sarah: -hopefully the teacher is a loudspeaker- she thought, she had heard stories of people failing entire subjects because they couldn’t hear or understand their teacher and she desperately hoped that she would not meet the same fate, although unknown to her these stories were mostly fake, those students failed because they were bad at the subject.

She checked the time on her phone, 8:58, the police had arrived within a few minutes and after explaining the situation, the kind female officer who had arrived at the scene first offered to escort her to her lodgings and then to the school, So thanks to the officer's efforts Sarah had managed to make it to Solarius on time despite her situation.

Putting her phone back into her pocket she pulled out her pencil case, it was bright pink and had cute little cats printed on it. She didn’t know if she would need it for the first class but she didn’t have much to do while waiting and this way she can be prepared if she did need it at any point.

At the desk in front of her two of her classmates were busy chatting away, a boy and a girl, the girl had crimson hair and was leaning against the back of the chair she was seated in, she was facing the back of the girls head so she wasn’t able to see her face, the boy on the other hand was facing towards Sarah’s direction, he wasn’t looking at her as his eyes were fixed on the crimson girl but that didn’t affect Sarah’s view by any means, he wasn’t ridiculously handsome or anything but he wasn't average, he had blonde hair with light blue eyes and short hair.

He had a wide smile on his face while talking with the crimson girl, Since they were directly in front of her and talking loudly Sarah could hear their conversation from where she was sitting.

Crimson girl: “The Emerald Queen would definitely win against The White Star if they fought” The girl explained

Blonde boy: “But the White Star is stronger! That’s a fact!” The boy argued

Crimson girl: “Yea, but only in terms of power, Emerald Queen is faster and more agile”

Blonde boy: “Sure, but that’s the only thing she beats him in, and it’s not a by a gap big enough to completely counter his strength, and magic output”

Crimson girl: “Yea that's true” the girl said a little annoyed before becoming confident “but she does have one advantage” the girl smirked

Blonde boy: “What's that?” the boy asked curiously

Crimson girl “The Emerald Queen is The White Star's younger sister!” the girl exclaimed smugly

Blonde boy: “...so?” the boy asked confused

Crimson girl: “So… who would want to beat up their adorable younger sister!? You moron, her skills are good enough to beat him as is, but the factor of family relations will certainly weigh on him, and he won’t use his full power, if only by a little”

  Blonde boy: “...”

Crimson girl: “Which is enough for her to kick his ass” the girl explained

Blonde boy: “That’s such a dumb take” the boy said “don’t you think using something like that would be something she would be against?”

Crimson girl: “Nope! See one of the things that makes her so great is that she always uses any advantage she can get, she doesn't really care much about pride and honour stuff” the girl smirked with admiration

Blonde boy: “Is that your opinion or is that a fact?” he asked hoping to trip her up

Crimson girl: “Fact" she said with complete confidence "I have multiple quotes that more or less backs that statement up, she’s all for underhanded tactics”

The boy stared at her in bewilderment

Blonde boy: “Ok well couldn’t the Queen not go all out for the same reason” the boy asked

Crimson girl: “Doubt it, I always go all out against my older siblings regardless of how much I care for them, it’s the advantage of being the younger sibling” she smirked with satisfaction.

Blonde boy: “...ok… your reasons are stupid but I can’t argue with them” the boy admitted defeat against his unshakable opponent.

Their conversation continued on but Sarah had stopped listening, instead she focused her attention into spinning her pen around her fingers. Personally she believed the Emerald Queen would be able to beat the White star without relying on their family ties but she might be a bit biased towards the Queen since she’s her favourite sorceress.

  Stolen novel; please report.

???: “All right!” A loud voice shot across the classroom. The noisy classroom quickly fell quiet as the students seated themselves and paid attention to the voice.

???: “So, I’m your first period teacher, My name is Rain Silva, although as my students you will refer to me as Mr Silva or Sir, preferably Mr Silva as I like to be addressed by name but I won’t make a fuss either way as long as it’s one of those options” The Man at the front of the room introduced himself as the teacher of the class, he had short brown hair and green eyes, on his earlobes were black earrings.

Mr Silva: “Many of you already know me and what subjects I teach from previous years but for those who are new and that I haven’t taught before, I teach History, Battle tactics and obviously this class which is Magic theory, so when you take those classes expect to see me”.

After Mr Silva explained his area of expertise a little further he went on to explain what the first week would entail.

Mr Silva: “This first week will mostly be about you guys settling into class, familiarising yourselves with the work and also getting to know the teachers and your fellow students” while he was busy explaining he handed out papers.

Mr Silva: “Please answer the questions on the paper as accurately as you can, its basically an assessment sheet of your personal capabilities so there aren’t wrong answers besides joke answers and false information, be truthful but don’t worry about overestimating or underestimating your abilities, you will eventually be required to present your abilities to various teachers where they will make their own judgements”.

He eventually finished explaining and handing out the assessment sheets, the questions were pretty easy to answer, some were just ticking boxes on a scale, for example, ‘How confident are you with magic’ out of the 3 options of, not very, moderately and highly, Sarah chose highly as she was very confident in her own magic.

The next question was trickier to answer ‘How Proficient are you with magic’ She wasn’t sure if her level of magic could be considered highly proficient but she did believe herself to be in that bracket, so she chose that option for that question, before she could fill in questions past the second question she was interrupted by the crimson girl in the seat in front of her.

  Crimson girl: “Hey”

  Sarah: “...Hi?”

Crimson girl: “Can I borrow a pen?” the girl pleaded “I forgot mine”

Sarah sympathised with the poor girl, especially after forgetting her books this morning, so she lent her a pen from her pencil case.

Sarah: “Here” she said handing her a black pen

The girl's eyes gleamed “Thanks” she said appreciatively “I’m Ranni by the way” the crimson girl introduced herself whilst taking the pen from Sarah.

Sarah: “I’m Sarah” she responded with a smile, now that Sarah could see her face it was obvious that the girl was extremely pretty, she had purple eyes and a small nose that fit her face well.

Ranni: “You’re a new kid right? I don’t think I’ve seen you around the school in the previous years”

Sarah: “yup that’s right, this is my first day” Sarah explained

Ranni: “Oh wow, where did you go before this?”

Sarah: “The last school I went to was Jacques Private but they only teach up to grade 8, after that I spent 2 years home schooled before applying to solarius for grade 11-13”

Ranni: “Jacques! That's pretty prestigious right? And Home schooling? How was that” she asked

Sarah: “I come from a old magic family so my education was fairly high even during my Home schooling” Sarah explained

Ranni: “Ah” Ranni responded with sparkles in her eyes “So are you rich?” she asked excited

Sarah: “Pftt, hahahhah” Sarah Laughed at Rannis unexpected Question, “Yea I’m pretty rich, which makes things nice and easy”

Ranni: “I bet, I just met you and I’m already jealous”

Sarah continued to laugh and talk with Ranni, although they both slowly stopped when the door to the classroom opened, a tall boy walked in, he spoke with the teacher for a few moments, since he was late on the first day he was probably apologising for his tardiness.

Eventually the boy finished talking and after accepting the assessment sheet he turned around to face the classroom and walked towards the back of the room, She noticed he had mostly dark hair with white in certain places, he was probably tired considering the dark bags underneath his eyes, Sarah took note of his handsome face and the scar under his right eye before diverting her attention to the rest of the room, many students had turned to look at the newcomer, some whispered quietly, a few laughed and made jokes, probably at the boys expense, he examined the paper as he walked towards the seat to the right of Sarah, he didn’t seem to notice the other students looking at him or perhaps he didn’t particularly care.

Reaching the available seat he pulled out the chair and promptly sat down, reaching into his bag he pulled out some pens and began filling in the sheet.

Leaning closer to Ranni and whispering very quietly “Who’s he?” Sarah asked

  Ranni: “No Idea” Ranni responded

Sarah: “really? He seems well known?”

Ranni: “Nah never seen him before, he’s definitely new though” She said “People are probably talking about him because he's late and he looks shady”

  Sarah: “Shady?”

Ranni: “Well the white hair makes it look like he’s trying too hard to be edgy and cool”

Sarah: “It looks natural to me”

Ranni: “Hm maybe… actually doesn't look dyed, how come his hair is like that then?” She wondered aloud with interest.

She abruptly diverted her attention from the boy to Sarah "We should get back to the sheet”

Sarah: “Ah yes!” Sarah had forgotten about the sheet she was supposed to be filling out, while answering the questions she glanced at the boy a few times, he seemed familiar but she couldn’t place where she had met him before, she wasn’t going to stress about it though"

Well that's what she told herself, in actuality, not being able to remember where she met the boy was causing her extreme annoyance, it made it hard to focus on the sheet despite the simplicity and how easy the task was. she eventually decided to bite the bullet and ask the boy if they had met previously, reaching out her hand she nervously poked the boys shoulder.
